2017 World Open Snooker Final – Ding Junhui vs Kyren Wilson Betting Preview

The final of the World Open takes place across two sessions in Yushan on Sunday and it will see the big home hope Ding Junhui taking on the former Shanghai Masters champion Kyren Wilson.

Along with a major title up for grabs in this final the two are playing for £75,000 which is the difference between winning and losing so there is plenty at stake in this closing match of the tournament.

Ding Junhui

The biggest star in Chinese snooker will go into this final full of confidence after an excellent run in the tournament so far. In terms of big names you could suggest that he has had a nice draw but he has got rid of those in his way with the minimum of fuss and even when Luca Brecel came at him in the semi-final he held his composure to come through.

I think it is fair to say that Ding’s electrifying scoring has not been there this week, although there have been times where he has looked as good as ever. His safety has given him enough chances to come through. In an ideal world he will find his scoring but we have seen enough of him now to know he can win without it.

Kyren Wilson

We have seen both sides of Kyren Wilson’s game in his last two matches. He was brilliantly brutal in his scoring in defeating Mark Williams in the quarter final while in the semi-final he had to battle against a man who loves a good fight in Mark Allen and that side of his game came to the fore for him too.

That battle in the semi-final may not have done him any harm. It proved to us, and to him, that he can compete under the pressure late on in big matches although to be fair his temperament has always been one of his strengths. If he can find that scoring power he had on Friday then he could hold claims for being the favourite here.

Head to Head

This will be the seventh meeting between these two talented players. Ding leads their head to head 4-2 but interestingly it is Wilson who has won both their Chinese battles. He also won their last meeting which was in the China Open last season so there is little to choose between the two on their past meetings.

Betting

I certainly think there is a case to be made for Kyren Wilson in this final. I think he has played the better snooker of the two so far this week but it is hard to go against Ding Junhui in big finals, something he has plenty of experience of.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Wilson wins the match but I would be shocked if either man wins this final easily. Both are too solid to allow the other to get away I believe and we’ve already seen that they are both striking the ball well. I’m not sure if this final will go all the way but everything we’ve seen this week suggests it will go beyond 16.5 frames.
