2017 World Series of Darts Finals – Day 1 Betting Preview

The opening night of the World Series of Darts finals from Glasgow takes place on Friday evening with the 16 qualifiers or invited players facing a best of 11 match to progress to take on one of the seeded players on Saturday night.

Such has been the varied list of players who took advantage of the qualifying events we have some really big names on show on the first evening of play including Adrian Lewis, Rob Cross and Simon Whitlock to name but a few.

First Four Matches

The tournament begins with two of its lesser lights playing when Simon Stevenson meets Jan Dekker. They are followed by Justin Pipe and Dave Chisnall who will compete in a clash of styles for the right to face Peter Wright on Saturday. Adrian Lewis makes a return to the big stage when he plays Max Hopp with two youngsters following them in the form of Michael Smith and Dimitri van den Bergh.

Later Four Matches

The most interesting match of the evening is game five when the confident Australian player Corey Cadby takes on Jelle Klaasen while Mark Webster will play Simon Whitlock after that. Chris Dobey qualified for this tournament and his reward is a meeting with Mensur Suljovic before two form horses collide to round off the night when Rob Cross plays Jonny Clayton.

Betting

This never really looked like an event which inspired me from a betting point of view but the prices have thrown up one bet which I like which comes in the final match of the evening between Jonny Clayton and Rob Cross.

We saw both these men in good form in Belgium last week and more importantly for me both were scoring well. In their first round wins there Clayton hit four 180s and Cross hit five so that bodes well given those wins were over this same best of 11 distance. Four of their five meetings this year have gone 6-4 or 6-5 and if we get that many legs here we’ll only need a 180 every other leg to cover a 4.5 line. That looks perfectly achievable to me.

Tips

Back J.Clayton vs R.Cross – Over 4.5 180s for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with William Hill
