2018-19 Premier League – Arsenal vs Newcastle United Betting Preview

We have a Monday Night Football in the Premier League this week and it comes from the Emirates Stadium as another round of matches concludes as Arsenal host Newcastle United in a fairly important night for the home side.

The Gunners have the chance to move up to third in the table which will be significant in the race for the top four. Newcastle are unlikely to roll over and make it easy for them though so we should be in for an interesting game.

Arsenal

The Gunners head into this match in good shape after a decent run prior to the international break. Only Manchester City have beaten them in their last eight matches and only Tottenham aside from that took points from Arsenal, and the Londoners missed a late penalty to avoid taking all three points there, so things are ticking along nicely at the Emirates at present.

Although Arsenal are in good form and winning matches I still have to shut my eyes every time I am on them and a team attacks them because they just don’t convince me one bit defensively, and haven’t done at any stage this season. They do however usually look wonderful going forward which compensates for their defensive deficiencies.

Newcastle United

Three wins in their last five matches have seen Newcastle United pull well clear of the relegation zone and another couple of wins will ensure that they are a Premier League team again next season. In that regard, they almost have a free shot at this. They have enough winnable matches to come to get what they need so they have the chance to try and take down a big team.

Newcastle built their foundations on a strong defence earlier in the season but as attacking players have come to the fore recently, Rafael Benitez has sacrificed that solidity to be a little more expansive and they are scoring goals as a result. They are conceding more too but that is only inevitable, but they are suddenly a much better watch that earlier in the season.

Team News

Arsenal are expecting to have Nacho Monreal and Aaron Ramsey available after they have recovered from injury. They could be without Granit Xhaka though after he picked up an issue on international duty. They are definitely without the suspended Lucas Torreira.

Newcastle also have an absentee through suspension. Theirs comes in the form of Fabian Schar although it was thought he might have missed the game due to the concussion incident he suffered while with Switzerland. Jamaal Lascelles is fit though and should return.

Betting

I think we’ll see some goals here. I’ve mentioned a few times how Miguel Almiron has brought another dimension to Newcastle’s attacking play and they are able to get on the front foot and go at opponents as a result of that which they never used to be able to do. This Arsenal side are begging to be got at as well.

You would think this Arsenal attack will have joy against the Newcastle defence though and so with that in mind goals should flow quite nicely, as they often have when these two sides have battled it out in the past. The 3 goal line is available at even money and that looks like a good way to get involved in this one.
