2018-19 Premier League – Brighton and Hove Albion vs Cardiff City Betting Preview

It is a huge night for Brighton and Hove Albion and Cardiff City in the Premier League on Tuesday, when the relegation threatened pair meet at the Amex Stadium. We often hear the six pointer cliché rolled out at this time of the season but this certainly is one.

Both teams have struggled since the turn of the year and it appears that it is between these two to determine who will remain in the Premier League and who will follow Fulham and Huddersfield Town through the trap door to the Championship.

Brighton and Hove Albion

Given their FA Cup exploits, you could have been forgiven for not noticing the struggles Brighton and Hove Albion have endured in the Premier League, but now that they are out of that competition their plight has become a little more obvious, and was highlighted further when they were mullered on this ground by Bournemouth at the weekend.

Brighton are never the most free scoring team going around so the one thing they can’t afford to do is concede a barrel load of goals. If they are going to stay up they probably need two more wins but a win here would certainly help them as it would move them eight points clear of the drop, which at this stage of the season is a pretty healthy margin.

Cardiff City

To be fair to Cardiff, when they came into the Premier League they were very competitive, especially at home, but the longer the campaign has gone the more it has been a struggle for them wherever they have played. They had to deal with the Emiliano Sala situation which was never going to be easy, and to be fair it looks like it has completely taken the stuffing out of them.

The Bluebirds head into the match with six defeats in their last seven matches and are the lowest scorers away from home in the entire Premier League, which is a pretty damning statistic when you consider that Huddersfield Town have barely scored a goal all season! That is something that is going to have to change if they are to remain in the top division.

Team News

Brighton will welcome Pascal Gross back for this match while Solly March is another who could return for the Seagulls. Their availability is welcomed because Anthony Knockaert is out through suspension after his red card on Saturday.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has no new injury problems for this match with just Sol Bamba and Callum Paterson missing out for the Bluebirds. He may look to freshen up his side though after their costly defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

Betting

Sometimes you get a fixture that you need to look at from a betting point of view but you don’t know where to start and that is very much the case here. Brighton must be low in confidence after getting mauled at the weekend while Cardiff are not showing the usual fight you would expect a Neil Warnock team to be showing in their predicament.

Brighton are probably worthy favourites with home advantage but when you’ve just been gubbed 5-0 I’m not quite sure exactly how big that advantage is. Even then they are too short at evens when they’ve hardly won a league game in 2019. Cardiff don’t do a huge amount for me either so I’m pretty happy to be leaving this one alone.
