2018-19 Premier League – Chelsea vs West Ham Betting Preview

There is one match left in the Premier League weekend and that will be played out on the Monday Night Football, which this week contains a London derby as Chelsea play host to West Ham United looking for a big three points.

The Blues are deeply involved in what is fast becoming a compelling race for the top four and look to have decent opposition to feast upon in the out of form Hammers. That said this is often a spicy one so anything could happen.

Chelsea

I think the first thing the Blues have to ensure they do here is concentrate on this match. I’m no Chelsea fan but it is absolutely ridiculous that they are being forced to play this encounter on a Monday night when they then go and represent the FA in Europe on Thursday night. They need to focus on the here and now and let Prague takes its course when the time comes later in the week.

In truth, all they should need to do is replicate the performance that they showed against Brighton and Hove Albion. It was no surprise that young, hungry, classy talents shone for them that night and it will be interesting to see if the penny has dropped for Maurizio Sarri yet. If Chelsea keep things tight at the back they look to have the necessary attacking power to get the job done here.

West Ham United

West Ham will have to overcome a really poor performance against Everton last time out. They have had nine days to dwell on that display, and they were so bad that if they have anything about them at all they will have been chomping at the bit to get back out on the pitch and put it right. Here is their chance and it will be interesting to see how they do perform in this match up.

The big concern for Hammers’ fans going into this match is their incredibly poor away form. They have picked up just one point out of a possible 21 on their travels and they’ve only scored once in their last six away from home. Manuel Pellegrini therefore will not need to search too deep to see what needs to change. Whether he can affect it or not remains to be seen.

Team News

Chelsea fans will have a close eye on Sarri’s team sheet here to see if Callum Hudson-Odoi gets a second successive Premier League start. If he doesn’t it could mean he starts in Prague on Thursday night. Marcos Alonso and Pedro are both doubts but Gonzalo Higuain is expected to return.

West Ham United have Felipe Anderson back available for them which should be a boost to them. Ryan Fredericks and Samir Nasri have also overcome injury issues and are available should Pellegrini want to involve them.

Betting

I’m not a massive fan of backing Chelsea, as I’ve highlighted a few times and if I do back them I want value on them. I’m compelled to taking them here because West Ham’s away form is pathetic. One goal in six and one point in seven on the road is beyond awful and they are absolutely begging to be taken on as a result of that.

I’m always concerned that this Chelsea team play when they want to though so rather than doing my nuts on them at 1/3 I think I’ll play a little riskier with the 5/4 on them to win to nil. Amazingly West Ham’s last 11 Premier League losses have been without them scoring so the chances are if Chelsea win here it will be to nil. I think that is slightly overpriced and offers better value and keeps a 1-0 on our side which none of the handicaps do, just in case Chelsea preserve energy for Thursday.
