2018-19 Premier League – Everton vs Arsenal Betting Preview

With the second FA Cup semi-final taking place at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, there is just the one match in the Premier League rather than the usual two that we often get to enjoy in the top flight, but it is still a big game nonetheless.

Arsenal have the chance to move back into third place in the table when they take on an Everton team who suddenly look motivated to finish the season well and who will want to trouble the Gunners at Goodison Park.

Everton

The Toffees go into this match off the back of successive 2-0 wins since that crazy defeat at St James Park when they led by that scoreline only to lose 3-2. That run has seen them move up to halfway in the Premier League table and a win here will see them up to ninth and will set up a positive finish to what has been a largely disappointing season for Everton.

With the cash that was laid out in the summer and the quality of player brought into the club, much more was expected from them than they have ended up delivering which is unfortunate. It is Marco Silva’s first season at the club though and he did have to completely change the playing style so perhaps they deserve a little bit of slack. They’ll only get that if they have a consistent finish to the campaign.

Arsenal

Arsenal are suddenly looking in very good nick here. They have won five and drawn the other of their last six Premier League matches with that draw being against Tottenham where they missed a late penalty to win that game. They do have the Europa League quarter final coming up in midweek though so it will be interesting to see how strong their focus is on this match.

Arsenal are certainly very good and very attractive in the attacking area of the game but they can leave a little to be desired defensively, which they will need to work out in the close season if they are going to better just battling for fourth place next season. All in all though it has been a positive first season under Unai Emery and one which they can build on. They just need to add silverware to it now.

Team News

Everton remain without defender Yerry Mina through injury so there is a good chance they will be unchanged from the win over West Ham last week. Gylfi Sigurdsson will once again look to pull the strings.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery could be without Granit Xhaka and Laurent Koscielny for this match and you would think if there are any doubts over them they will be saved for Thursday. Lucas Torreira misses out through suspension.

Betting

I like the over in this match. I say that because I’m not convinced by either of these sides defensively. There is no doubt in my mind that both teams are better going forward and that their strengths lie in their attacking units so I’m expecting to see plenty of goal threat and chances. Both keepers have an error in them too so there is enough to like about over 2.5 here.

Arsenal scored five in both fixtures against Everton last season so if they are on a going day they could cover this line on their own but the Toffees have found some confidence and I expect them to push for goals. Matches between these two tend to live up to expectation and I’ll back over 2.5 with the expectancy that this one will do likewise.
