2018-19 Premier League – Saturday 12th January Matches Betting Preview

The Premier League returns from the FA Cup break with seven fixtures on Saturday as the competition sparks back into life. On a fairly busy day we have the leaders in action and three of the four sides chasing the top four places.

The picture at the bottom of the table might become a little clearer on Saturday too with a number of the sides in the mix all in action across the three kick off times that make up a fascinating looking day of football.

Early Kick Off

The day begins at the London Stadium where there is a London derby as West Ham United go up against Arsenal in a key match for both. The Hammers are making good strides under Manuel Pellegrini and could move seventh with a win here while Arsenal will go level on points with fourth placed Chelsea should they come out on top in the contest. Throw in the London bragging rights and we should get a good start to the day.

3pm Matches

The leaders Liverpool are in action in the traditional kick off time when they make the tough trip to Sussex to take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. The other big matches in this kick off slot will be key to the relegation picture when Burnley host Fulham at Turf Moor while Cardiff City host Huddersfield Town down in Wales with the losers of those encounters being up against it.

The other two matches see another London derby of sorts taking place at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace play host to Watford. The other match is the Claude Puel derby as his current side Leicester City look to bounce back from their FA Cup exit when they take on the Frenchman’s former side Southampton at the King Power Stadium.

Late Game

The final match of the day comes from Stamford Bridge where Chelsea will be looking to protect their spot in the top four when they play host to Newcastle United. Rafael Benitez heads back to a former club looking for three valuable points to lead the Magpies away from immediate danger at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

I’m probably sounding like a broken record by now but once again I expect to see goals in an Arsenal match. Nobody will need me to keep pointing out that Arsenal look an abomination defensively but West Ham United are not a great deal better so even in the early kick off the goals surely have to flow here. Arsenal still look fantastic going forward but West Ham aren’t too shabby either. Over 3 goals is almost a no brainer in this one.

I also can’t resist the temptation to back Cardiff City. I keep on mentioning Huddersfield Town and how poor they are and nine successive defeats in all competitions pretty much tells its own story. Cardiff aren’t a huge amount better but there is at least a spirit and a bit of a goal threat in them which is completely devoid from the Terriers. Cardiff are generally solid enough at home. They’ve lost their last two at home but nobody is going to hold defeats to Spurs and Man Utd against them. Neil Warnock will know how big this match is and he’ll have his side fired up to deliver. With draw cover that is required in matches like these Cardiff look a good bet.
