2018-19 Premier League – Saturday 18th August Matches Betting Preview

The second round of matches in the new Premier League season begin with six fixtures on what is a largely quiet Saturday in the top division. Many of the perceived challengers for the title play later in the weekend so there is a chance for the lesser lights to shine although there is one big clash in the evening.

As ever with a Saturday these days, we have the now normal three kick off times and a couple of juicy looking TV matches to enjoy as well as some competitive games in between them.

Early Kick Off

The day begins at the Cardiff City Stadium where the new boys Cardiff City play host to troubled Newcastle United in a match which sees both sides looking to pick up their first points of the campaign after difficult starts last week. All eyes will really be on Cardiff to see how they have adjusted to promotion in their first home game since making it back into the Premier League.

3pm Matches

West Ham United play their first home game under Manuel Pellegrini with Bournemouth the visitors to the London Stadium while there is a London derby of sorts at Wembley Stadium where Tottenham Hotspur play host to newly promoted Fulham. Everton will look to get their first win of the campaign when Southampton made the long trip to Goodison Park and in the other game the Championship champions Wolves head east to take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Late Game

We save the best for last on Saturday with the huge clash between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge rounding things off. Chelsea have a chance to steal a bit of a march on the other top sides apart from Tottenham if they can win here while the Gunners will be going in pursuit of their first points under new boss Unai Emery after they were easily beaten by Man City last weekend.

Betting

I’m going with a couple of home sides to get the job done on Saturday. The first of those comes in the form of West Ham United. To be fair the Hammers were poor last weekend but they ran into a highly motivated and red hot Liverpool team who probably aren’t for being stopped when they are in that mood at home. I think West Ham are better than that though and I expect them to show that here. Bournemouth opened the season up with a positive result last weekend but I’m not sure what, if anything, they beat in the form of Cardiff. With another week to settle in I expect West Ham’s new players to perform better here and come out on top.

Chelsea looked good in their cruise against Huddersfield Town last week and I am expecting them to back that up when they entertain Arsenal on Saturday evening. Arsenal didn’t look great against Manchester City and I think it is going to take them a bit of time to adjust to the new style of Unai Emery. Arsenal seemed to struggle when City pressed them last week and that is exactly what we can expect of Chelsea here. Maurizio Sarri likes his side to attack and I think they have too much for Arsenal in this one.
