2018-19 Premier League – Saturday 2nd March Matches Betting Preview

It has been a busy week in the Premier League already and there is one more round of matches before it concludes. That begins on Saturday when there are seven matches on the card including a huge derby and a massive clash at the bottom of the table.

As is becoming the norm on a Saturday, we have three kick off times this week and two matches live on TV for those of us in the UK. We begin with the biggest match of the day and then the action keeps coming from there.

Sign up to 888sport BEFORE 12.30pm Saturday, bet £10 on anything to get a £5 free bet on EACH of Saturday’s Premier League fixtures – £35 free bets! Click the image above to bet. Use code PL35. 18+ New accounts only. T&Cs apply. THIS OFFER ENDS AT 12.30PM ON SATURDAY.

Early Kick Off

We get going at Wembley Stadium where Tottenham Hotspur will look to put their disastrous week behind them when they host bitter rivals Arsenal in the North London Derby. This is their third meeting of the season with both having won one of the previous two, so bragging rights is very much up for grabs here. This match could yet play a big role in the outcome of the top four places come the end of the season too.

3pm Matches

We have five matches in the traditional 3pm slot this week with the champions Manchester City in action as part of it. They will look to return to the top of the table for 24hrs at least when they head to Bournemouth. Manchester United will look to keep up their tilt at the top four when they play host to troubled Southampton, who go in search of a second win in successive matches.

Burnley are at home on Saturday. They welcome Crystal Palace to Turf Moor with the other two matches having implications at the bottom of the table. Brighton and Hove Albion are in freefall at the minute but they have a chance to arrest the slide when they host Huddersfield Town at the Amex Stadium while Cardiff will look to climb out of the bottom three when they head up to Molimeux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Late Game

The action finishes back in London where West Ham United continue their bid to finish seventh in the table come the end of the season, when they host a Newcastle United team eyeing up a third successive win which would near enough ensure they will be playing Premier League football once again next season. The Hammers have a number of attacking players back available so this should be a good end to a busy day.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of main bets over the course of the afternoon on Saturday and then there are smaller bets that I like on two sides who are stupidly overpriced. We’ll begin with the North London Derby where I’m expecting to see plenty of goals. The reverse meeting between the two finished 4-2 to Arsenal and we might get something similar here. For as good as Arsenal have been recently they are amateurish defensively and this Spurs attack should rip them to shreds but Tottenham aren’t exactly watertight going the other way. Their only clean sheet in seven was against Newcastle who never even tried to attack. You’d think both teams will score here so we only need one on top for the over 2.75 to land a pay out of some sort.

Cardiff City have taken a couple of batterings so far this week but there was no lack of fight in Neil Warnock in his interview after the loss to Everton on Tuesday night and the one thing I took from him was he said he ‘wanted players who he would want in the trenches with him’ for this match so he is clearly going to Molineux to take on Wolves with the aim of muscling it up and turning it into a scrap, pretty much exactly the match that Wolves are not equipped to thrive in. Wolves will probably know this but there is one thing knowing it and another combating it and they are convincing me less and less as hot favourites in this division and I was never convinced by them to begin with. Cardiff have won two of their last four away and we can allow them the defeat at Arsenal in between as that was their first game after the fateful Emiliano Sala incident. They beat Wolves in Wales this season and won at Molineux last term. There was no love lost between these two teams last term so I’m expecting Warnock to have his charges bang up for this. I’ll play the +1 Asian line and nibble at the 7/1 Cardiff win.

Huddersfield Town might be one of the worst teams to grace the Premier League but at the present time Brighton aren’t a huge amount better so the 9/2 on Huddersfield to win at the Amex Stadium is plainly all wrong. Brighton have won one of their last 12 in the Premier League so how they are odds on to beat anyone is beyond me. They should win this. They may very well prove to win this but they are under all sorts of pressure to win it. Huddersfield can play with a bit of freedom and I just can’t ignore the 9/2 on them landing another win. They are helped in their cause by Pascal Gross being unavailable for the home side. He is their main creative force so this Terriers defence may not have as tough a time as they might have done.
