2018-19 Premier League – Sunday 19th August Matches Betting Preview

It is a busy Sunday in the Premier League this week with three matches taking place up and down the country. There may only be six sides in action over the course of the day but the top two from last year are on show.

Two of the three matches will be on TV as ever and there will be plenty of ways of keeping up to date with the other game for those who can’t find a live stream from which to watch it on.

Manchester City vs Huddersfield Town

We begin at the Etihad Stadium where the champions Manchester City play their first home game when they take on a Huddersfield Town side for whom this already looks like it is going to be a long campaign.

Amazingly this match ended 0-0 last season and I don’t think it is too farfetched to expect Huddersfield to employ the same tactics of parking the bus and hoping they can capitalise from a set piece or something. City looked to click into a nice groove last week but since then they have been rocked by the Kevin de Bruyne injury.

I do think City will breakthrough in this one but I’m not convinced they will go ballistic here. It is still fairly early in the season to run up a big score and even if they concede I don’t expect Huddersfield to open the game up too much. Under 3.75 goals looks safe enough as it gives us a good margin for a City win but still requires a fair bit of effort to lose fully.

Burnley vs Watford

The game away from the live cameras in the UK sees Europa League marathon men Burnley hosting their former striker Andre Gray and his Watford side in what looks like a low key battle away from the spotlight.

You would think that at some point Burnley’s exploits in the Europa League will catch up with them but whether that is here against a largely poor travelling Watford side remains to be seen. This is one of those matches where you can make a case either way but neither case appeals more than the other to me so I’ll sit this one out.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Manchester United

The final match of the day is a repeat of the one where Brighton caused a big shock last season to retain their Premier League status. They beat Manchester United 1-0 on that occasion and will be looking for a repeat here.

Much was made of the turbulence of the pre-season campaign away from the pitch heading into the season for United but they showed no signs of weakening when they saw off Leicester in their first game. Brighton were soundly beaten by Watford last week and will be eager to get off the mark here.

Brighton have been tough to beat at home for a while and if they are to avoid a serious relegation battle they will need to ensure the Amex is something of a fortress this time around too. It is a little too early in the season for me to trust that they will have their home form where they would want it but I can’t say I’m in a rush to back Man Utd either so I’ll leave this one alone too.
