2018-19 Premier League – Sunday 24th February Matches Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend concludes on Sunday with the final two matches of the latest round of games and at the top of the table it is a massive day with two of the sides battling it out for a place in the top four in action as well as the leaders.

One of the games of the season is the live game for those of us who are in the UK and hopefully that lives up to the hype rather than provide us with a damp squib of a match, like these big matches sometimes have over the course of recent times.

Man Utd vs Liverpool

There is no doubt which is the big match of the day. It is the one from Old Trafford where Manchester United take on Liverpool. A few weeks ago this would have been an away win for all money but United have improved and while Liverpool may not have regressed, they have definitely plateaued.

United go into the match unbeaten domestically under Solskjaer and we’ve already seen with a couple of sides this week just what making the quarter final of the FA Cup has done for their confidence. United will be looking to be the third. Liverpool had a nervy encounter with Bayern Munich in midweek but they weren’t overly exposed or anything so should be right up for this one.

There is plenty tempting me about a home win in this match and at around the 2/1 mark I might regret ending up not backing it but I think over 2.5 goals is the safer bet here. I’m not convinced United’s defence can restrain the Liverpool attack but equally I fancy United to get their joy going forward too. Solskjaer will know the score here and be desperate to dent Liverpool’s title bid. Usually a draw would be fine for Liverpool but whether they can afford that I’m not sure. I’ll play over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Southampton

The other match on the afternoon, which those who don’t support Arsenal or Southampton could be forgiven for forgetting is actually a thing given the little coverage it has received, comes from the Emirates Stadium where the three points are extremely valuable.

The Gunners are battling away for fourth spot in the table so could do with winning this one to help them in that quest, although a favourable draw in the Europa League could help their Champions League hopes next term. Southampton are now in the bottom three and in desperate need to picking their form up again.

I think Southampton can give this Arsenal side a few problems but the fact that Danny Ings is out sways me from taking them, and it doesn’t do much for my other hunch of the overs. It might be that over 3 is still the way to go but there is enough doubt for me to give this one a miss.
