2018-19 Premier League – Tottenham vs Man City Betting Preview

The pick of the matches in the latest round of the Premier League comes from Wembley Stadium as Tottenham Hotspur play host to Manchester City in the Monday Night Football which could have massive implications on the season.

City have been dispossessed from top spot over the weekend but they will regain it should they win this match. Were they to lose it they would end the week in fourth table which would be about as low as they’ve been at this stage of a campaign for a while.

Tottenham Hotspur

Much was made of Tottenham’s lack of summer transfer activity but they have started the Premier League season wonderfully well. Their European campaign has not yet got going but domestically they have won seven of their nine matches and will move to within a couple of points of top spot should they come out on top.

What has been particularly impressive about this recent run has been the fact that they have been without some key players throughout the season so far which has tested their squad. The positive side of that is that they now know they don’t need to bring all that many players in during January to remain competitive at the very top level.

Manchester City

The champions go into the match unbeaten this season and having only dropped points in two of their nine matches. They were away to Liverpool and Wolves and in truth there probably is no shame in either of those. They were a failed spot kick away from beating Liverpool and do not look like they have regressed in any way which could have been a concern given how dominant they were last season.

In those nine matches, the Citizens have conceded just three goals and scored 26 which makes them the best in the Premier League in both boxes. You would probably have expected them to have the most goals given their wonderful style they employ but to be so tight at the back really is a credit to them, especially when you factor in they have been to Liverpool and Arsenal.

Team News

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Dele Alli will be fit for this match. Whether he starts or not remains to be seen. Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose are both expected to miss the game.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will be without Ilkay Gundogan for the contest. He will need to decide ahead of the game whether to start with Kevin de Bruyne or not. Kyle Walker is fit to face his former club.

Betting

I think Manchester City have to be the pick in this match but they are plenty short enough at their current price so I’m looking for another way to play the game. Given that they have not conceded in five matches I’m tempted by City to win to nil but you have to give this Spurs attack a little bit of credit.

With that in mind I’m going to take City to win the game and it contain more than 1.5 goals. Each match that City have won this season they have scored twice and their attack up against Davinson Sanchez could be an accident waiting to happen. 2-0 City is a result that is perfectly possible but if City win the only result that kills us is 1-0. This doesn’t feel like a 1-0 game. Six of City’s last seven wins over Spurs have seen them score three or more. The stats and my feeling suggests City and over 1.5 goals will land.
