2018-19 Sky Bet League 1 – Saturday 15th September Matches Betting Preview

We have a full round of matches in the Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday as the division begins to head towards the double figure mark in games played. All teams have had a good week off since the last league game so form should be trusted a little more here.

Those sides who have begun well will be looking to kick on now while those whose start has not been how they wanted will be eager for the three points to kick start their season. It should be another intriguing Saturday.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

AFC Wimbledon v Scunthorpe United

Bradford City v Charlton Athletic

Burton Albion v Sunderland

Coventry City v Barnsley

Fleetwood Town v Accrington Stanley

Luton Town v Bristol Rovers

Peterborough United v Portsmouth

Plymouth Argyle v Blackpool

Rochdale v Gillingham

Shrewsbury Town v Southend United

Walsall v Doncaster Rovers

Wycombe Wanderers v Oxford United

Big Matches

There is only one place to start in terms of the big matches in the division this week with the top two doing battle at London Road as Peterborough United take on Portsmouth in a clash of styles. Barnsley in third put their unbeaten record on the line when they head to the Ricoh Arena to take on Coventry while Sunderland will look to continue their strong start when they take on Burton Albion at the Pirelli.

Best of the Rest

Walsall are the other unbeaten side in the league and they face Doncaster Rovers at the Bescot Stadium while Fleetwood, who are the side in between those two teams, play host to another side who are going well in Accrington Stanley. Two former Premier League sides meet at Valley Parade when Bradford City host Charlton Athletic. Bottom of the pile Plymouth will look to get their first win of the season when Blackpool are in town.

Betting

I like two home sides on Saturday. Luton are pretty good at Kenilworth Road these days and have two wins and a draw on their own patch. Bristol Rovers are stuttering at the minute with just one win from their opening seven matches and are struggling for goals with just six of them in seven games which might give Luton’s defence an easier time of it. With their away form not good Luton know the importance of winning their home games and the strange drift on them makes them decent enough value here.

Rochdale have lost all three of their home matches this season but they have all been to sides currently in the top five so there might be a case for the fixtures distorting their ability. Gillingham began the season strongly but they have now lost four of their last five in the league and while three of those have been to good looking sides last week’s reversal against AFC Wimbledon will have disappointed them. Spotland is never an easy place to go and I expect the home side to show that here.
