After the Sky Bet League 1 action began on Friday night and saw a match fall foul of the weather on Saturday morning, we are left with 10 fixtures on the card on Saturday and after Barnsley slipped up in the live game two sides will be desperate to take advantage.
The race for promotion, the final play-off spot and to avoid relegation are heating up nicely and on Saturday the focus is on all three parts of the table on what looks like a tense and nervy day in the third tier.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Bristol Rovers v Charlton Athletic
Burton Albion v Blackpool
Fleetwood Town v Plymouth Argyle
Luton Town v Gillingham
Oxford United v Bradford City
Peterborough United v Coventry City
Portsmouth v Scunthorpe United
Shrewsbury Town v Wycombe Wanderers
Southend United v AFC Wimbledon
Sunderland v Walsall
Big Matches
Luton Town can move seven points clear at the top of the table when they entertain Gillingham at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon while Sunderland can move to within a couple of points of second spot when they host Walsall at the Stadium of Light. Portsmouth welcome Scunthorpe United to Fratton Park looking to get themselves back in the mix for the top two. At the other end of the table there is a huge match between Oxford United and Bradford City who both start the day in the bottom four.
Best of the Rest
AFC Wimbledon will be looking to come off the foot of the table when they take on Southend United at Roots Hall while two sides in the chase for the final play-off spot meet at London Road when Peterborough United host Coventry City. Blackpool are the other team in that race and they head to Burton Albion knowing that a win will put them on the fringes of the top six. Shrewsbury Town host a plummeting Wycombe Wanderers.

Betting
I’ll go with three over the course of the afternoon in this division. The first one comes from the Stadium of Light where Sunderland have to beat Walsall if they are going to snatch that second spot. Walsall have found their mojo a little more in recent weeks but they look like a side who should be outclassed by the better teams in the division. Sunderland draw far too many matches for anyone’s liking but with no match next week and the cup final the week after they know they have to win this game to keep the table looking friendly ahead of a crazy busy April. I expect them to do that.
Southend United are suddenly looking right over their shoulders after a run of no wins in nine matches and the pressure is right on them against an AFC Wimbledon side who have finally come alive. The Dons have lost just one of their last six and that was in the last minute to Charlton Athletic. They have kept clean sheets in their last three and are suddenly looking like a force who could escape relegation. The conditions at Southend could suit the visitors and there is enough juice in their price to get stuck into them against a home side who’ve spent plenty of time travelling this week.
Peterborough United can’t seem to keep 11 men on the pitch at the present time so that makes them vulnerable against Coventry City on Saturday. We all saw Coventry look a decent enough outfit at Luton on TV and a few weeks ago and they head to Posh with one defeat in seven. Peterborough have only won two of their last 10 and in Wycombe and Oxford they haven’t beaten anything in that run. Coventry look equipped to be a danger away from home and I fancy they can leave Cambridgeshire with a result of some sort.
