There was meant to be a full round of fixtures in Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday but international call ups have put paid to two of them so we are down to 10 games in the third tier on a day which will be important for plenty of sides.
The race for promotion and for the play-offs are bubbling up nicely but the battle to beat the drop has become one of the more insane tussles we’ve ever seen at this stage of the season. All three stories will play out on Saturday, where the action begins in front of the TV cameras.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Walsall v Barnsley (12.00)
AFC Wimbledon v Gillingham
Bradford City v Blackpool
Burton Albion v Accrington Stanley
Coventry City v Oxford United
Luton Town v Doncaster Rovers
Peterborough United v Southend United
Plymouth Argyle v Bristol Rovers
Rochdale v Scunthorpe United
Shrewsbury Town v Portsmouth
Big Matches
The action begins at the Bescot Stadium where Walsall take on Barnsley in a big match for both sides. Walsall are fighting hard to avoid the drop while Barnsley are looking to secure an immediate return to the Championship. The pick of the matches though comes from Kenilworth Road where the leaders Luton Town will look to put even more points between themselves and Sunderland in third when they entertain Doncaster Rovers at Kenilworth Road.
Best of the Rest
Given how tight the bottom half of this table is we are going to get six pointers near enough every week that is left in the campaign and this week is no different. AFC Wimbledon host Gillingham looking to continue their resurgence while Rochdale take on a Scunthorpe United side who are just beginning to fade themselves once again. Portsmouth prepare for next week’s cup final with a trip to Shrewsbury Town while Bradford will look to come off the bottom with a win over Blackpool.

Betting
One or two tempt me on the card this week but ultimately not enough to lure me into a bet so this is another weekend where I am going to stick with the tried and tested and what I know and that means I’m backing Luton Town to get the win over Doncaster Rovers at another packed Kenilworth Road.
Luton are unbeaten at home this season and although they slipped up against Gillingham last week that came off the back of two incredibly long away trips and they looked a little leggy. I don’t expect that to be the case here though and if anything I expect them to thrive, even without leading scorer James Collins. Town still have a number of forward options in his absence and go up against a Doncaster side without a win in their last six and who have turned into very ordinary travellers. Recent road losses to Wimbledon and Shrewsbury don’t look good and with Portsmouth, Barnsley and Peterborough all failing to win at Kenilworth Road since the turn of the year it is hard to see Donny doing it. There won’t be many times we get 10/11 on Luton at home over the next couple of months so I’ll jump on it here.
