2018-19 Sky Bet League 1 – Saturday 27th October Matches Betting Preview

Another busy week in Sky Bet League 1 concludes on Saturday when the teams in the division play their third match in eight days. The entire league is in action on another busy Saturday and there are some real big matches among them.

All of a sudden everything has tightened up again in the league table which means that there is plenty of value to the three points on offer in the various matches which should mean even more competitive matches.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Accrington Stanley v Portsmouth

AFC Wimbledon v Luton Town

Barnsley v Bristol Rovers

Burton Albion v Peterborough United

Coventry City v Doncaster Rovers

Fleetwood Town v Blackpool

Gillingham v Bradford City

Big Matches

The big match of the day actually comes from the Wham Stadium where the leaders Portsmouth travel to face Accrington Stanley in a clash between fourth and first. Peterborough United will be hoping to pick up three points at Burton Albion to take advantage of a Portsmouth slip up, if there is one. Sunderland in third play host to a rejuvenated Southend United while Barnsley in fifth will be expected to win when they entertain lowly Bristol Rovers at Oakwell.

Best of the Rest

We have a local derby between Fleetwood Town and Blackpool among the matches on Saturday while two sides in completely opposite form meet in London when AFC Wimbledon host Luton Town while Rochdale host the side they beat to stay up last season in Charlton Athletic. Gillingham play host to Bradford City in what feels like a huge match at the bottom of the table while the two sides immediately outside the play-off places meet at the Ricoh Arena when Coventry City take on Doncaster United.

Betting

I’ll go with two bets over the course of the day on Saturday. The first one comes from Oakwell where I think Barnsley can get back on track after surprising successive defeats on their travels this week. Barnsley remain the best team I’ve seen this season and they have the squad depth to change any jaded legs without being too disadvantaged. Bristol Rovers don’t have that luxury and you have to go right the way back to September 1 for the last time they scored away from the Memorial Ground. Rovers saw off AFC Wimbledon in midweek but in truth that form isn’t standing up to much scrutiny so I think they are there for the taking from a classy Barnsley outfit.

I also can’t resist a punt on my own side Luton Town who go to an AFC Wimbledon side who are dropping like a brick. Wimbledon’s resources were always going to be stretched in this division this season especially after Lyle Taylor left so after two road trips they could have done without a rampant Luton who could make seven changes and not weaken their side if they wanted to turning up on their doorstep. I don’t envisage Luton making that many changes and I do think they can win this match. Wimbledon have lost seven of their last eight and scored once in their last five. Even the win in that time was against Oxford which isn’t a huge form statement. Luton’s away form looks pap on paper but they have been to four of the top seven in their away matches and could have come away with something from three of them. When they’ve gone down in class away from home they were the width of the post from beating Wycombe and they beat Oxford. They can beat Wimbledon too.
