With Portsmouth and Sunderland competing in the Checkatrade Trophy final on Sunday afternoon, we are left with a slightly reduced round of matches in Sky Bet League 1 on Saturday but one which is no less important it must be said.
We hit the final six matches of the season after Saturday so the rush for points is intensifying especially in this insanely tight race to beat the drop. Teams at the top want them too though so Saturday is likely to be another exciting day in the division.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Fleetwood Town
Barnsley v Coventry City
Blackpool v Plymouth Argyle
Bristol Rovers v Luton Town
Charlton Athletic v Bradford City
Doncaster Rovers v Walsall
Gillingham v Rochdale
Oxford United v Wycombe Wanderers
Scunthorpe United v AFC Wimbledon
Southend United v Shrewsbury Town
Big Matches
The leaders Luton Town will be looking to take advantage of the absence of Portsmouth and Sunderland on Saturday when they make the trip to the Memorial Stadium to face Bristol Rovers while Barnsley will be looking to do likewise when they meet up with Coventry City at Oakwell. At the other end of the table there are two huge matches in the relegation battle. Scunthorpe United host AFC Wimbledon while Southend United begin life without Chris Powell by hosting Shrewsbury Town.
Best of the Rest
Doncaster Rovers will be looking to preserve their spot in the top six when they host Walsall while Rochdale will be looking to climb out of the bottom four when they go up against Gillingham. Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers meet in a bit of a local derby at the Kassam and there is another derby of sorts up at the Wham Stadium where Accrington Stanley host Fleetwood Town. Charlton Athletic host Bradford City in a clash of former Premier League sides.

Betting
Two for me over the course of the piece on Saturday. The first of those is once again my own team Luton Town. I took them last week quoting that we wouldn’t see 10/11 on them very often anymore and while they are not quite that price the 5/6 on them still makes perfect sense against Bristol Rovers. I took Rovers in midweek but by all accounts they were awful and had run out of gas if you would pardon the pun and you don’t want to be facing a refreshed Luton side when your energy levels are flagging. Doncaster themselves saw what Luton can do with a week to prepare and while Rovers might not get gubbed 4-0, I do expect them to go down in this one.
Gillingham have had some good results lately and they can continue against a Rochdale side who are making a bit of a move since Keith Hill left but who still concede far too many goals for anyone’s liking. To be fair Gillingham have been ordinary at best at home this season but they have the ideal chance to thrill their fans with a good performance here. I was impressed when Gillingham came to Kenilworth Road a couple of weeks ago and they followed that up with a good 4-1 win at AFC Wimbledon last week. We should acknowledge the improvement in Rochdale since Keith Hill left but this is their first away game since then and I expect them to be found out.
