2018-19 UEFA Nations League – Monday 15th October Matches Betting Preview

The penultimate evening of UEFA Nations League action in the current international break takes place on Monday and there are some tasty games among them as the competition heads towards the climax of the group stage.

England and Northern Ireland are in action among the home nations and both need victories to remain alive in the competition but there is plenty to play for in the other matches to on what could be a busy night of football.

Group A

We have two matches in Group A on Monday night. In A2 it is a big night for Iceland. They will be out of the competition if they lose when they welcome Switzerland to Reykjavik while the other match is huge for England. Anything but a win against Spain in Seville and their campaign is over and they will be facing the threat of relegation which is not what they will have wanted so soon after a positive World Cup showing.

Group B

It is all about B3 in terms of the secondary group as Bosnia-Herzegovina look to put one foot towards promotion to the big league when they host a Northern Ireland side for whom the match is must-win if they are to remain in the tournament. In fact, should they lose the match relegation will beckon for Michael O’Neill’s side.

Group C

The Group C action comes from C2 where the top two in the section meet as Finland take on Greece. A win for the Finns would see them just about promoted to B league while Greece can take the group deep if they can win the match. The other two in the group also meet when Estonia play host to Hungary in a match neither can afford to lose especially the home side, who look out of their depth at this level.

Group D

Two key matches take place in D2 on Monday night when Belarus look to keep a stranglehold on the section when they play host to Moldova. A win in the match will keep them top of the pile but should they slip up then Luxembourg can claim top billing should they complete what is expected to be a routine win against San Marino.

Betting

I like two bets over the course of the evening with the first of them being on Spain to take care of an England side who are without a couple of key players in Jordan Henderson and John Stones, and who despite their positive World Cup are still working out how best to play against the very big sides in world football. Spain have dominated their two matches in the group so far and can play with a freedom that few others can on their day. England having to win this match to stay alive in the section should create spaces for Spain to do their thing and with that in mind I think they are good things here.

I mentioned over the weekend how I’ve been impressed with the improvement in Luxembourg in recent times and although they lost to Belarus they gave as good as they got and probably should have got something from the game. They host San Marino on Monday evening with the minnows renowned for struggling in the second match in an international window. San Marino are a poor side anyway so I’m expecting Luxembourg to make up for Friday’s disappointment with a resounding win in this game.
