2018 ATP Miami Open Tennis – Day 3 Betting Preview

The big names enter the fray in the ATP Miami Open on Friday which immediately elevates the tournament to a whole new level. The second round begins on what is another busy day at Crandon Park.

The Indian Wells champion Juan Martin del Potro is the headline act on the third day of the tournament while all eyes will be on Novak Djokovic earlier in the piece to see how his comeback is going. Kei Nishikori, Grigor Dimitrov, John Isner and Marin Cilic are all on show on Friday too.

Day 2 Recap

Once again there were not many matches which had the opportunity for a shock to occur on Thursday but we almost lost the likes of Denis Shapovalov and Daniil Medvedev but both came through in a third set. Frances Tiafoe was a popular winner in the night session.

It was a quiet betting day for us on Thursday but a successful one at the same time. Denis Istomin was out only bet on the day and he came through in straight sets to take our tally forward to three wins from three in the tournament thus far.

Stadium Court

A women’s match gets the action underway on the main court and that is followed by Pierre-Hugues Herbert taking on the second seed Marin Cilic. They are followed by Novak Djokovic as he begins his tilt at another Miami crown. He takes on Benoit Paire for a place in the last 32. In the night session Juan Martin del Potro opens up proceedings when he faces Robin Haase.

Grandstand

There are four men’s matches on the second court on Friday. David Goffin returns from injury in the opener when he faces Joao Sousa. A women’s match follows that and then Kei Nishikori is back on the big stage. He plays Australian qualifier John Millman. The day session concludes with John Isner facing Jiri Vesely. In the night session Grigor Dimitrov plays Maximilian Marterer of Germany.

Court 1

There are three more matches on this court on Friday. Diego Schwartzman will look to make it through when he takes on Nicolas Jarry in a South American clash. Milos Raonic will look to build on his run to the semi-finals in Indian Wells last week when he faces Swedish qualifier Mikael Ymer before much later in the piece Jared Donaldson meets Feliciano Lopez.

Best of the Rest

There are plenty of other matches on show around the grounds on Friday and some decent names among them. Hyeon Chung and Roberto Bautista Agut compete on Court 2 while out on Court 7 Richard Gasquet and Andrey Rublev face tricky opponents. Gilles Muller and Britain’s Liam Broady are also in action.

Betting

I’ll go with two on Friday and both come in the day session. David Goffin returns from an eye injury when he takes on Joao Sousa but having had a month out this might be a vulnerable return for the Belgian star. Sousa may not be the player he once was but he had a good win over Alexander Zverev last week before going down in three to Milos Raonic. Sousa has been getting edged out in a lot of tournaments recently but his activity could give him the edge over a Goffin who has to be rusty and who might need 20-30 minutes to adjust to playing again.

Later in the day there is an all-French clash between Richard Gasquet and Jeremy Chardy in which Chardy is the favourite largely down to Gasquet missing Indian Wells with a knee issue. He is sure everything is fine now though and if he can play to the form that saw him make the final in Montpellier last month then he should have it in him to come through here. Chardy was impressive enough last week but Gasquet is 3-0 against him in their career head to head. If his knee is fine he should make that 4-0.
