2018 BDO World Darts Championship – Day 3 Betting Preview

The third day of action in the BDO World Darts Championship follows a similar pattern to the first two as the men’s preliminary and first rounds continue alongside the women’s first round on another busy day inside the Lakeside Country Club on Monday.

We’ve seen a number of the main protagonists in both draws already but there are still some good players on show on what should be another dramatic day of action at the Surrey venue.

Afternoon Session

We only have three matches in the afternoon session on Monday and they all come from the men’s event. The Canadian player David Cameron is first onto the stage when he takes on Michael Unterbuchner of Germany. The New Zealand qualifier Craig Caldwell follows them onto stage when he looks for a place in the first round. He takes on Daniel Day.

The final match of the afternoon is the only first round match in the session as the beaten finalist here last year Danny Nopport takes on the luckiest man in the field in Richie Edwards. Edwards only made it into the field when James Hurrell pulled out last week.

Evening Session

It is the Belgian star Andy Baetens who is given the task of opening up the evening session. He takes on Scott Baker of England with both men making their debuts in the tournament. One person who isn’t making a debut is Trina Gulliver. She begins her quest for yet another world title when she takes on Vicki Pruim who now represents Sweden.

Two more men’s first round matches round off the day. The first of those sees Dean Reynolds taking on his countryman Chris Harris in a match the youngster is widely expected to win with Darryl Fitton concluding the session when he plays Justin Thompson who had to come through the preliminary round to get this far.

Betting

I’m going with three bets over the course of the day including my first bet in the women’s draw along the way. In the afternoon session I expect Danny Noppert to have few problems seeing off Richie Edwards. The Welshman is freerolling this week which potentially makes him dangerous but he’s open against one of the best in the BDO as we saw on Saturday evening. Noppert is in great form and he can pick up a second 3-0 win in the space of three days.

Moving into the evening and I like Andy Baetens of Belgium to come through with a little in hand. As with most Belgians, Baetens is a heavy scorer and when his finishing is on song he can be very tough to beat. He has made a big impression in 2017 and has a pair of wins over his opponent Scott Baker in that year. He can kick 2018 off with a third win in a row against the Englishman who has done well to be here but would need Baetens to be significantly off his game to have a chance.

Trina Gulliver carried the women’s game for a number of years and while she remains competitive in it her rivals have caught her up. Although Gulliver pulled off a shock when she won this two years ago she hasn’t been fluent on this stage for quite some time so I believe she could be ripe for an upset. Vicky Pruim is playing some nice darts on the circuit and has nothing to lose here which makes her very dangerous. At odds against I’ll take her to dump out the Golden Girl.
