The seventh day of the BDO World Darts Championship is another action packed one inside the Lakeside Country Club as the men’s quarter finals and the women’s semi-finals all take place in another bumper two session day on Friday.
We have four best of nine set men’s quarter finals with a couple of very intriguing matches while the two women’s semi-finals, shockingly over just the best of three sets, look like being full of quality too.
Afternoon Session
We get underway with Andy Baetens taking on the former champion Scott Waites with both men knowing that a win in this match not only secures a semi-final spot but also guarantees a return here next year. The women’s semi-final between Trina Gulliver and the hugely impressive Anastasia Dobromyslova follows them.
All eyes will be on the final match of the afternoon where Glen Durrant takes on Jim Williams. The conspiracy theorists may think Durrant will want to lose this match as it frees up a move to the PDC to follow the likes of Cameron Menzies and Danny Noppert who have already committed to that switch. On what we’ve seen so far Durrant should win though.
Evening Session
The second part of the day begins with the second women’s semi-final as the number one seed Deta Hedman takes on the lady who has dominated this tournament in recent years in Lisa Ashton in what should be another great match.
Richard Veenstra then bids for a place in another semi-final when he takes on the surprise package of the tournament in Michael Unterbuchner with a huge opportunity ahead of both and then the day is rounded off with the world number one Mark McGeeney going up against another surprise of the event in the Welsh player Wayne Warren.

Betting
There are a few bets I like over the course of the day. The first comes in the opening match where I fancy Andy Baetens has the quality to push Scott Waites close. Both men are playing well and this should be a really close quarter final. If Baetens hits his doubles he may well cause an upset here but one thing we know about Waites is that he isn’t going to go down without a fight. I like over 7.5 sets in the first game.
Michael Unterbuchner has been very good so far in this tournament but at some point his doubling deficiencies are going to catch up with him and I fancy that will happen against Richard Veenstra. The Dirk Kuyt lookalike has been in good form in this tournament and has averaged over 90 in both matches and has been ploughing in the 180s. The German has relied on his scoring ability so far this week but he’ll go well to outscore Veenstra over nine sets. I expect the Dutchman to have too much for his German rival both in game and experience and I fancy he’ll have a bit in hand in getting over the line.
I also think we will see a tight match in the final game of the night when Wayne Warren goes up against Mark McGeeney. Both men have shown what they can do in one of their two matches this week but this is new ground for the pair of them so natural nerves and things will come into play so this has the looks of one of those full of drama contests. Both men score pretty well and I wouldn’t say either are too much worse than the other on the doubles. I expect this to go over 7.5 sets too.
