2018 Champion of Champions Snooker – Group 3 Betting Preview

The world champion Mark Williams headlines the action at the Champion of Champions on Wednesday when he makes his debut in the tournament as Group 3 is played out at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Williams will be favoured to make it through but he is up against three top draw opponents on what should be another amazing day of snooker to follow on from a truly wonderful day of action on the baize on Tuesday.

Mark Williams vs Kyren Wilson

The opening match of the day sees the world champion Mark Williams going up against the Paul Hunter Classic winner and finalist in The Masters in Kyren Wilson in what should be a cracking start to a potentially special day.

Williams has made it well known that he has been enjoying life in the last six months and celebrating his world title a little bit too much. Credit to him for that. He fully deserves to celebrate an amazing achievement and by not hiding nothing it is good to have that knowledge. Wilson is at the opposite end of the dedication scale. He is a relentless practicer who will have been pounding the table ever since he got back from China.

Wilson lost in the first round in China but I don’t think that is a problem as his Twitter feed made it well known that he was having issues with his luggage and everything. It sounds like an excuse and it is an excuse but it is a worthy one. I think Wilson will give this is a right good go and I think he’ll win the match but I’m on him outright and that is enough interest here.

Judd Trump vs Luca Brecel

The other group semi-final in this section sees two men who are in here on world ranking only doing battle. Judd Trump takes on Luca Brecel for a place in the group final and it is quite amazing that neither have won a title of significance in the last 12 months.

We should be in for a cracking match here. Both these men are great to watch and I’m not expecting to see much safety played. In fact on this table which has already yielded three of the four matches containing five or more 50+ breaks in this round, I expect to see the scoring flow. The balls are only going to go scrappy if they miss pots because there won’t be much safety being played.

With that in mind I think the 13/8 on over 4.5 50+ breaks looks too big to ignore here. I don’t think these two will play many frames on this table where there isn’t a 50 so it might be that 4-0 either way is the danger. Hopefully they combine for a great match and if they do this should land.

Group Betting

I think Kyren Wilson will come through this group if he can see off Mark Williams. He has a wonderful record against Judd Trump who I think will come through the other match but in truth the price is about right on Wilson and I’m already on him outright so I don’t really need to go in on him again.

Brecel doesn’t look to be playing well enough to see off Trump and whoever wins the other match while Williams’ lack of dedication must be a concern. If it comes down to Wilson and Trump I’d take Wilson all day long were I not on him but I am and there isn’t enough mileage in the price to tempt me in again so I’m happy to sit this group out.
