It is the second day of the qualifying event for the China Championship on Monday with another set of players looking to book their spots on the plane for the main draw of the hugely lucrative Chinese event.

We saw the big names on show on Sunday make it safely into the main draw and on Monday there is another bunch of household players looking to avoid a surprise and get themselves through to next month’s event.

Morning Session

Stuart Bingham headlines the opening session of the second day of play and he will be on one of the main tables. He goes up against Craig Steadman while on the other streamed table Stephen Maguire will face Chen Feilong on the other one. The outside tables will see Mark Joyce playing James Wattana while Xiao Guodong will meet Zhang Yong in an all-Chinese battle. Liam Highfield meets Hammad Miah and Daniel Wells takes on Billy Joe Castle in the other games.

Afternoon Session

The world number one Mark Selby is the main man on show in the afternoon session. He will be involved in a battle for the ages as he takes on Jimmy White on one of the main tables. Kyren Wilson will face the German player Lukas Kleckers on the other one. Thepchaiya Un-Nooh will be looking to come through on one of the outside tables when he plays Rhys Clark while Scott Donaldson will be aiming to do likewise when he meets Basem Eltahhan. Fergal O’Brien faces Peter Lines in the other match.

Evening Session

All eyes will be on Judd Trump in the evening session. He could do with a big run in a major tournament early in the campaign and he’ll face Eden Sharav in his qualifier on one of the main tables on Monday. Yan Bingtao goes up against Niu Zhuang in an all-Chinese battle on the other streamed table. Chris Wakelin meets Thor Chuan Leong on one of the outside tables with Li Hang facing countryman Mei Xi Wen on another one. Andrew Higginson plays Zhang Anda in the other match of the evening.

Betting

A couple of bets interest me on Monday. In the afternoon session I like Peter Lines to see off Fergal O’Brien. The only man who has beaten Lines in this season is Mark Allen and that is no bad thing on the part of Lines. You wouldn’t expect him to beat Allen but those you would give him a chance against he has polished off quite nicely. O’Brien has played some good snooker this season but he has played some dodgy stuff too. He has come through both his qualifiers so far this week but has only made two 50 breaks in those matches and I sense he’ll need a bit more here. Lines never really has much to lose in these qualifiers and he can give this a good go and cause another slight upset.

Andrew Higginson is quietly going about his work at the minute. He is generally making his way through to the main events and is just waiting for that big week to really get him going. He is another who has had a good week so far and is looking for a third win in succession. Zhang Anda had lost a few tight matches this season but he thrashed Lu Haotian in the European Masters qualifying. I wouldn’t be surprised if Zhang ends up losing another close one here against a man with all the experience in tight situations.
