2018 European Darts Trophy – Last 16 Betting Preview

It is the final day of the European Tour season on Sunday when the European Darts Trophy concludes over the two remaining sessions of play out in Gottingen and for those not yet qualified for the European Championship there is plenty to play for.

This is the last chance for those who need more cash to progress to the final event in a couple of weeks to get it so Sunday should be very competitive. Time restrictions as ever will deny us the chance to preview the evening session but we’ll go through the last 16 in the afternoon here.

First Four Matches

The action begins with a crackerjack of a match between defending champion Michael van Gerwen and former world champion Stephen Bunting before Matthew Edgar will be looking to continue his dream weekend when he faces Daryl Gurney. Michael Smith then looks to keep his good record in this tournament up when he takes on Steve Beaton before John Henderson and Dave Chisnall collide to send us into the afternoon interval.

Later Four Matches

Two men who had good wins on Saturday meet in the first match after the break when Jelle Klaasen takes on Martin Schindler, who recorded a 6-0 win over Mervyn King on Saturday. Jonny Clayton then goes up against Richard North who could boost his position in many events with a big Sunday. James Wade faces Darren Webster in the penultimate match of the afternoon before the world champion Rob Cross and the local star Max Hopp round off the session.

Betting

I’ll go with just the one bet on Sunday after filling up the satchels with a couple of winners on Saturday. It comes in the match between Jelle Klaasen and Martin Schindler where there could be a touch of value on the Dutchman.

We have not seen Klaasen at his best for quite some time but a win over Peter Wright should boost his confidence markedly and a confident Klaasen is a beast that can take some taming. There is nothing like a child arriving in the family to focus the mind and what is important in life and earning enough to support his kid could have that effect on Klaasen. Both men performed similarly on Saturday which suggests this could come down to nerve and who holds theirs the best. Given the experience that he has you would think Klaasen would have the edge there and at 13/10 in a match which I see as much more 50:50 than that, and potentially even make the former Lakeside winner a slight favourite in, the value is with the Cobra.

Tips

WON – Back J.Klaasen to beat M.Schindler for a 4/10 stake at 2.30 with Coral
