2018 Fever-Tree Championships – Day 3 Betting Preview

The second round of the Fever-Tree Championships begins on Wednesday when half of the field play their last 16 match and with quarter final spots up for grabs we should be in for another cracking day of tennis.

The British crowds will still be reeling from the exit of Andy Murray on Tuesday so they could do with some quality tennis to cheer them back up and with the likes of Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka and Sam Querrey on the card they might just get it.

Day 2 Recap

It was a day of great matches at the Queens Club on Tuesday with quality three setters right across the grounds. Grigor Dimitrov, Feliciano Lopez, Nick Kyrgios and Leonardo Mayer were among those who came through in lengthy encounters while Novak Djokovic powered into the second round in some style.

It was a second profitable day in a row for us on Tuesday with two of our three bets winning as Feliciano Lopez saw off David Goffin and Kyle Edmund only beat Ryan Harrison by three games. It could have been three from three as Dan Evans served for the match against Adrian Mannarino before succumbing to defeat.

Centre Court

We have three matches on the Centre Court in the singles draw on Wednesday. It begins with the American next-gen player Frances Tiafoe taking on Leonardo Mayer before the heavy artillery comes to the party. Stan Wawrinka takes on Sam Querrey in what should be an appealing match in the second game of the afternoon before it will be bombs away in the last of the singles games when the number one seed and former champion Marin Cilic takes on Gilles Muller in a repeat of the semi-final from 12 months ago.

Court 1

It is mostly doubles out on Court 1 over the course of the third day of action but those with ground passes will have the chances to see a singles match in the opening game of the schedule. It is between the Russian rising star Daniil Medvedev and the powerful Frenchman, Jeremy Chardy, who is enjoying a decent enough season so far.

Betting

I’m going with two bets over the course of Wednesday. The first one comes in the form of Frances Tiafoe who I think holds a number of advantages over Leonardo Mayer not least because this is Mayer’s first grass court tournament in two years. It isn’t his best surface anyway but a lack of recent experience could really count against him. Another thing that could go against Mayer is the fact he was on court for just under 2.5hrs on Tuesday on a hot day whereas Tiafoe breezed through his first round match on Monday and has had the day off. I think the American has the better all-round game for this surface and he can see off the Argentine here.

I also like over 23.5 games in the clash between Marin Cilic and Gilles Muller. Cilic warmed up for this match by thrashing left handed Fernando Verdasco in the first round but Verdasco never showed anything like his best form in truth. Muller served very well against Denis Shapovalov in the opening round and I would expect two close sets here if not three. They went the distance in the semi-final here last year and then followed that up by going five sets at Wimbledon. I expect them to go deep here too.
