2018 French Open Tennis – Day 11 Betting Preview

The second half of quarter final matches at the French Open take place across Roland Garros on Wednesday and after a dramatic start to the last eight on Tuesday us followers of the event are hoping for more of the same on Wednesday.

We’ve already seen Novak Djokovic come and go on Tuesday and it is the chance of Rafael Nadal to stake his claim on Wednesday, a day where both number one seeds are in action and it is loaded up quality everywhere you look.

Day 10 Recap

Tuesday was all about the Novak Djokovic vs Marco Cecchinato match. It actually looked the weakest of the four on paper but it turned into a classic with arguably the biggest shock in French Open history with the Italian winning. Elsewhere there were straight sets wins for Dominic Thiem, Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens.

Unfortunately for us, Daria Kasatkina has little answer to the power and precision of Stephens. All looked well in that match when Kasatkina broke back to level up the first set at 3-3 but she could only win one more game in the entire match to end her run with a tame defeat.

Philippe Chatrier Court

Two former champions of this tournament get the play underway on the main court when Garbine Muguruza takes on Maria Sharapova in what is the pick of the women’s quarter finals and then comes the latest in the Rafael Nadal story. The world number one will look to move within two wins of a tenth Roland Garros title when he faces the gutsy Argentine player Diego Schwartzman for a semi-final spot.

Suzanne Lenglen Court

The women get things underway on the secondary court too when the current world number one takes on the former leader of the rankings when Simona Halep goes up against Angelique Kerber. They met in an epic Australian Open semi-final earlier in the year and hopefully they produce similar here. They are followed by two former US Open champions as Marin Cilic and Juan Martin del Potro meet in a really good looking quarter final.

Men’s Betting

I’m tempted to continue to ride the wave of Diego Schwartzman but you bet against Rafael Nadal at your peril and I might be daft but I’m not completely bonkers so I’ll focus on the other semi-final where I am more confident.

Juan Martin del Potro is playing some excellent tennis and on this surface I think he’ll have too much for Marin Cilic. Cilic has never been beyond this stage and having been taken the distance by Fabio Fognini on Monday it remains to be seen what he has got left here. Cilic went missing for a couple of sets in that match and if he goes missing at any stage here he’s got no chance. Even if he doesn’t the relentless pressure that del Potro can bring will see the Argentine on his way to covering a 2.5 game handicap and extend his wonderful record against his Croatian opponent.

Women’s Betting

I think we are in for a couple of tight semi-finals in the women’s draw. The match between Garbine Muguruza and Maria Sharapova looks full of quality and could turn into a very physical battle between two of the classiest players in the game. The beauty of both these players is they both hate losing and fight until the bitter end. Their last two meetings have gone three sets. If this does too then over 21.5 games is safe but it has a chance even in two tight sets so I like the over there.

After their amazing semi-final in Melbourne I like the idea of a tight semi-final between Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber. They went deep into a third set down under and while the sets might not be as tight on this surface I see no reason why this won’t go to a decider. Both are playing excellent tennis and there will be periods when both are on top and they will take advantage of that. This just looks like going three sets to me so over 20.5 games looks the pick.
