2018 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 7 Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the Grand Slam of Darts get underway on Friday evening with the two matches in the bottom half of the draw taking place on what looks like being another tasty night of darts in Wolverhampton.

The world champion Rob Cross and beaten finalist last year Peter Wright exited from this half in the previous round which has left an open feel to proceedings ahead of the two best of 31 leg matches on the evening.

Dimitri Van den Bergh vs Mensur Suljovic

The action gets underway with the nine dart man Dimitri Van den Bergh taking on the World Matchplay finalist Mensur Suljovic over the best of 31 legs for a place in the semi-final on Sunday afternoon.

The nine dart leg was very much the highlight in what was a disappointing performance overall from the Belgian in the previous round but I don’t think being a favourite on the big stage necessarily sits well with him. I expect a much better showing from him as an outsider in this contest. Suljovic has looked ordinary right throughout the tournament.

I think Van den Bergh will come through here. Suljovic hasn’t scored well at all in this tournament and the relentless scoring will get the Belgian down to the doubles much more regularly. Barring a complete blowout on the doubles I think the world youth champion gets the job done here.

Gerwyn Price vs Simon Whitlock

The second quarter final sees Simon Whitlock taking on Gerwyn Price for the second time in this tournament after the two met in an epic encounter in the group stage of the competition. Whitlock won that match but bookmakers can’t split them for this contest.

Price eased into the quarter finals having secured his qualification prior to that final group match against Whitlock and then overcame the challenge of Josh Payne in the last 16. Whitlock beat Wright after his miracle escape from his group but in truth Wright didn’t play anything like his best so as a form guide we can’t really use that.

Both men look to be in good touch this week though. Both have peppered the 60 and produced good averages along the way so I fancy we’re in for a good contest here. Inevitably missed doubles will come into play but that might only serve to keep it even closer. With that in mind over 27.5 legs looks the punt here.
