2018 The Masters Snooker – Judd Trump vs Kyren Wilson Betting Preview

We have a Super Saturday to look forward to in the Alexandra Palace in London with both semi-finals of The Masters being played. The opening one in the afternoon session sees Judd Trump taking on Kyren Wilson for a place in the final.

Surprisingly both men will be out to reach their first Masters final. That might not be a surprise for Wilson who is only making his second appearance here but it will be in the case of Trump who is much more experienced and talented enough to have done deeper than he has here before.

Judd Trump

It will be interesting to see if that record is weighing on the mind of Judd Trump both going into this semi-final and during it. I got the feeling in his post-match interview that he is well aware he should have done better in this tournament down the years and I sensed he might be putting pressure on himself to finally make a final here.

The positive for Trump here is that he is playing well going into the semi-final. He finished off his quarter final with a string of decent breaks and if he can replicate that ending throughout this match he will have every chance of success. He has played well going into a semi-final before and choked so he would be wise to take nothing for granted.

Kyren Wilson

This is all new territory for ‘The Warrior’. He picked up his first win in the tournament in his first round match on Tuesday and he did not have to wait long for his second one. That came in the quarter final on Thursday night when he saw off Mark Williams in emphatic style so he is a worthy semi-finalist.

Wilson has already made a couple of finals this season so he is not somebody who gets spooked by this stage of a tournament. Whether the magnitude of this particular semi-final has an effect on him remains to be seen but you would be a brave man to wager against Wilson putting in a decent performance in this match.

Head to Head

These two have met on six previous occasions with Trump holding the edge with four wins to the two of Wilson but it is the Warrior who has won their biggest meeting to date which came when he won his first ranking event. Wilson beat Trump 10-9 in the final of the 2015 Shanghai Masters. He also followed that up with a win in the Champion of Champions the same year but has lost their last two meetings.

Betting

I am back with the centuries here. The table was covered with a new cloth overnight so it should be back to playing like it was at the beginning of the week and if that is the case I expect this to catch fire from a breakbuilding point of view.

Wilson has shown all tournament that he will go for his shots and does not back down and that is the philosophy that Trump generally uses too. They will either get themselves in from distance and score or if they are slightly out when they look to get in they will leave the table open for their opponent. Either way I do not see this one being a tight and tactical one so over 1.5 centuries appeals.
