2018 Mzansi Super League – Tshwane Spartans vs Cape Town Blitz Betting Preview

There is one match in the Mzansi Super League on Saturday evening when the Cape Town Blitz look to extend their lead at the top of the table when they head to SuperSport Park in Centurion to take on the Tshwane Spartans.

The Blitz sit comfortably top of the pile so they could be playing with a bit of freedom in this one. Tshwane Spartans are chasing that third spot and probably need to win here if they are to have much of a chance of getting it.

Tshwane Spartans

The Spartans have two wins to their name this season and both of them have been in high scoring encounters which probably highlights their strengths and their weaknesses so far. They have the ability to go very big with the bat, especially if AB de Villiers has a day out but you wouldn’t back them to defend too much particularly if he has a bad day.

Tshwane are going to need to go on a good run of victories if they are going to make it into the latter stages of the competition but they go into this match off the back of a win so if they can back that up with another here then their season might finally be getting back on track. A win here will send them into third place which is all the incentive they need.

Cape Town Blitz

The league leading Cape Town Blitz had won their opening four matches of the tournament but then the schedule went against them and was a part of them picking up their only defeat to date and their last match was washed out. While they have eased up since those four wins there are certainly factors that we need to take into account.

Really and truly there is a clear case to be made that in matches Cape Town Blitz have not been done up by they are unbeaten in the tournament so far. In theory that is no surprise because Quinton de Kock and Farhaan Behardien have returned from Australia while the form of Dale Steyn in this tournament so far has been something of a revelation.

Team News

Dean Elgar showed his worth in the previous match for the Tshwane Spartans while Sean Williams was pivotal with the ball. Both are expected to play a key part in this contest while AB de Villiers will be crucial too.

Cape Town Blitz have been hit by the news that Anrich Nortje is out of the tournament with injury so Dale Steyn is going to be crucial for the visitors with the ball. Dawid Malan is due back soon but may not be in for this game.

Betting

I find it hard to go beyond the Cape Town Blitz for this match even allowing for the improvement in the Tshwane Spartans’ form in recent times. I just think the Blitz hold claims for being the best team in the tournament and they are yet to be beaten by anything other than the schedule in truth.

In Quinton de Kock and Dale Steyn they probably have the two best players with the new ball and against it in the entire tournament and they have been in excellent form so far. They also have some canny spinners who will operate well and some power in the middle order. Barring a de Villiers blitz I’m expecting Cape Town to win this.
