2018 PDC World Darts Championship – 3rd Quarter Betting Preview

There isn’t really a quarter in the PDC World Darts Championship draw but one of the more open sections of it is the third quarter which we will take a look at now. A number of men will head to Alexandra Palace dreaming of a big run which should make for some tense and exciting action.

Peter Wright is the headline act in this part of the draw but he has had his fitness issues coming into the event which could open things up nicely for the likes of Adrian Lewis, Simon Whitlock and Kim Huybrechts among others.

Draw

(2) Peter Wright v Diogo Portela

(31) Jonny Clayton v Kenny Neyens/Jamie Lewis

(15) Alan Norris v Kim Viljanen

(18) Kim Huybrechts v James Richardson

————————————————————————

(7) Adrian Lewis v Aleksandr Oreshkin/Kevin Munch

(26) Cristo Reyes v Toni Alcinas

(10) Simon Whitlock v Martin Schindler

(23) Darren Webster v Devon Petersen

Preview

I was unsure whether Peter Wright would come through this section prior to his gallstones issue but in light of that I’m certainly not convinced he will. I had Jonny Clayton down as a dark horse to beat him while Alan Norris and Kim Huybrechts will see the opportunity they have in front of them and will be eager to take it.

The other half of the quarter looks very competitive. On their day Adrian Lewis and Simon Whitlock are class acts. Both have been to the final of this tournament with Lewis twice a champion of it but the Stoke thrower has had plenty of injury issues this year and this could come too soon for him while Whitlock throws in too many stinkers for comfort these days. He won’t need reminding of what Darren Webster did to him here last year while Cristo Reyes almost took care of Michael van Gerwen 12 months ago.

Betting

I’m already on Alan Norris outright but this quarter looks so open to me that I can’t ignore a little punt on him to come through it. If Wright is not fully fit or his practice has been impacted so much that he isn’t the factor he should be then anyone can win this quarter.

With doubts over many of the market leaders in it I wouldn’t be completely surprised if we get a completely unpredictable quarter final here but I fancy Norris to be in it and whoever he faced he would have every chance.
