2018 Scottish Open Snooker – Day 3 Betting Preview

The second round of the Scottish Open is played out on yet another busy day of snooker action inside the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Wednesday as those left in the tournament look to make it into the last 32 of the third Home Nations series event of the year.

Tuesday was another day of thrills and spills and shocks along the way with Stuart Bingham the latest big name to crash out of the tournament. There are a number of big names through to play on Wednesday though so the entertainment should be strong.

Morning Session

Ali Carter will get top billing in the morning session when he takes on Michael Georgiou for a place in Thursday’s action. That will be on the main table first up while former Northern Ireland champion Mark King will be on the other table. He goes up against the amateur David Lilley who has been getting some good results this season.

The outside tables will all be in use in the morning session. Martin O’Donnell looks to build on his good form when he plays Sam Baird while Michael White will be looking to rediscover his form against Nigel Bond. Zhou Yuelong goes up against his fellow countryman Lyu Haotian and Stuart Carrington plays Eden Sharav. The other two matches in the session sees Lu Ning playing Jak Jones and Ian Burns faces Mike Dunn.

Afternoon Session

The defending champion Neil Robertson will have the TV table first up in the afternoon session. He takes on the Scottish player Ross Muir while Ding Junhui will be on the streamed table as he plays Robert Milkins who had a good win in the first round. Joe Perry is in action elsewhere as he plays Robbie Williams while Soheil Vahedi meets Billy Joe Castle. Zhang Jiankang gets to play Lee Walker with Yan Bingtao meeting Ashley Carty. James Cahill meets Zhang Yong and the other match in the first set of afternoon games sees Luke Simmonds playing Yuan Sijun.

John Higgins will be the second star on the TV table. He plays Gerard Greene while the streamed table will have Luca Brecel meeting Alan McManus. In the other matches on the outside tables in this session Scott Donaldson and Graeme Dott meet in an all-Scottish battle while Dominic Dale meets Zhao Xintong. Marco Fu plays Alfie Burden and Dave Gilbert takes on Daniel Wells. The Paul Davison and Kyren Wilson match and the Robin Hull against Tian Pengfei ones will be on the main tables if there is time.

Evening Session

The evening is all about Shaun Murphy first of all. He goes up against Michael Holt in what should be a good clash on the main table. Masters champion Mark Allen will face Chen Feilong on the streamed table. Jimmy Robertson and Jack Lisowski should throw up a decent offering on an outside table. Mark Davis meets Zhang Anda with Matthew Stevens facing Elliot Slessor. Joe Swail plays Mark Joyce in the other match.

As ever two matches will be saved for last with Judd Trump being the second match on the TV table in this evening session. He goes up against Ben Woollaston while two tournament winners meet on the streamed table when Ryan Day takes on Anthony Hamilton in what will be a good match if the Sheriff has his best form with him.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of Wednesday with Gerard Greene being the first of them. He takes on a John Higgins who looks bang out of form and even the inspiration of playing on home soil didn’t seem to spark him into life in the first round. Higgins has suggested he has a broken rib which won’t do him any favours and he is up against a solid player in Greene who had a wonderful day of scoring in the first round. A repeat of that and he’ll win this and I’ll have a small punt accordingly but I’ll have a much stronger bet on Greene making it to two frames.

Dave Gilbert was scoring sensationally well in the UK Championship and he didn’t fare too badly in that department in the first round here. If he keeps up that scoring I expect him to have no problems in taking care of Daniel Wells who had a right touch when Ronnie O’Sullivan pulled out before their first round contest. He might be a little rusty though having been knocked out of the UK Championship more than a week ago with a performance so bad it had to be seen to be believed. I’ll take Gilbert to cover a frame and a half.
