2018 Shanghai Masters Snooker – Quarter Finals Betting Preview

It is quarter final day at the Shanghai Masters on Thursday with all four matches being played across two sessions out in China. It is the last day of the best of 11 frame matches so the tournament is about to go up a notch I fancy.

Eight star players have made it through including the world champion Mark Williams, world number one Mark Selby, Ronnie O’Sullivan and the home favourite Ding Junhui so there is much for the crowds to enjoy over the course of the day.

Morning Session

The big match of the morning sees Ronnie O’Sullivan continuing his title defence when he goes up against fellow Essex potter Stuart Bingham in what should be a great match given the form they both displayed in their only matches so far. The other match in the morning session sees the form horse Kyren Wilson taking on Ryan Day in what is a massive opportunity for both men.

Afternoon Session

Two great looking games await us in the afternoon session. The pick of them is probably the one between the world number one Mark Selby and the home crowd favourite Ding Junhui in what should be a corker of a contest. On the other table at the same time the world champion Mark Williams will be looking to progress to another major semi-final. He takes on Barry Hawkins who is no strange to going deep in a big event.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day with the first one coming in the match between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Stuart Bingham where I like the latter to make more than 2.5 50+ breaks. Bingham is one of those players who clearly relishes playing O’Sullivan. I guess that is because of the amount of times they have played each other through the years and how well they know each other. Bingham scored brilliantly in his opener and as long as he has kept his form going on the practice table since then I think there is three 50s in this for him.

Later in the day I have to be with Ding Junhui in the big match of the afternoon. Selby came through against Zhou Yuelong in the last round but he didn’t convince at any stage. He always needs to be beaten but Ding is certainly good enough to do it. It took Ding a little while to get going against Mark Allen but when he did he soon went into overdrive with the turbo button fully activated. If Ding scores in this match like he did in that one and Selby continues to struggle there should only be one winner here.
