The County Championship season has reached its penultimate round and while the title may be decided there is plenty more to be settled over the course of the last two sets of matches, the first of which begins on Tuesday morning.
There are eight matches in all with the various live streams, radio commentaries and social media feeds keeping us up to date on all of them and with some big games on show this is another important week of action.
Division One
Surrey will be looking for a victory lap when they take on second placed Somerset down at Taunton. Somerset will be reeling from missing out on two trophies in the space of a week and will want a big performance. The big match of the week comes from Headingley where Yorkshire need 11pts to guarantee being safe. They host Hampshire while Essex play host to the Vitality Blast champions Worcestershire in the other match.
Division Two
Warwickshire can win promotion this week if they can avoid defeat at Hove when they take on third placed Sussex. If Sussex lose that match then Kent will also become a Division One side if they can see off Glamorgan down at Canterbury. Gloucestershire play host to Northamptonshire at Bristol while Leicestershire host Durham and Middlesex take on Derbyshire at Lord’s in the other two matches.

Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets this week. Yorkshire pretty much assured themselves of Division One cricket last week and they should confirm their status this week when they take on a Hampshire side who are safe and who are without Dale Steyn from here on in. They will miss him even with Kyle Abbott in decent form and if motivation is lacking then this is a perfect chance for Yorkshire to pick up another win. Yorkshire have enough with the bat and with Ben Coad back with the ball they can see off a Hampshire side who might have won last week but have gone all year without impressing with the bat which will make the Steyn absence felt even more.
In Division Two, Durham look good things to me. Leicestershire have faced some tough sides in the last few weeks but they haven’t passed 200 in any of their last four innings. On the flip side of that Durham beat Sussex last week and held Warwickshire the week before and have Mark Wood back here so life isn’t going to get any easier for the Leicestershire batsmen. If Paul Collingwood plays he will want to go out on a high so there is a lot to like about Durham this week.
