2018 Tour Championship Golf – Final Round Betting Preview

The final round of the PGA Tour season takes place on Sunday with someone walking away with the Tour Championship title in Atlanta on a night where a $10 million bonus is handed out to the man who wins the FedEx Cup.

Justin Rose is in control of the big bounty with the FedEx Cup massively in his hands heading into the final 18 holes but as for the Tour Championship a Tiger is on the prowl on what promises to be a mouth-watering night of golf from across the pond.

Round 3 Recap

We might have had joint leaders heading into the weekend but we no longer have that after Tiger Woods stole a march on the field with a vintage round of golf on Saturday. He now leads by three on 12 under par with Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose the two men on nine under who will look to chase him down on Sunday. Kyle Stanley and Jon Rahm will hope the three men over them slip up and that they can build on their six under total to push for a big prize.

It was another poor day for us betting wise on Saturday as for the first time this week we ran into a train in the round that Tiger put together. He was five under through six holes and while he levelled out after that there was no chance of Justin Rose overhauling him.

Sunday Betting

As ever on a Sunday we are left with the outright market to go at, or what is left of it. Woods is odds on to deliver the goods from here on in and while I wouldn’t be rushing to take that, I’m not particularly keen on opposing it either. Maybe if Rory McIlroy wasn’t alongside him in the final group I’d have had a go but the Northern Irishman’s record in the final group in recent times leaves plenty to be desired.

Everyone else with the exception of Justin Rose is too far back but there may well be a time in the round where Rose plays for the FedEx Cup ranking rather than the tournament so he’s not all that appealing either. Kyle Stanley is in the mix for me and he is going to remain my only leaderboard interest on Sunday.

Sunday 2 Balls

For the fourth time this week the 30 men will go out in two balls on Sunday with Woods and McIlroy the last pairing onto the golf course. They go out at 19.05 BST with Rose and Stanley out 10 minutes before then. The first group off could take a nice gallery around with them when Patrick Reed tees off alongside Phil Mickelson in a popular group. I’m betting on one in between though.

Tommy Fleetwood vs Hideki Matsuyama

Match tees off at 17.55 BST

Two men in the middle of the pack head off pretty much bang on halfway into the final round when Tommy Fleetwood partners Hideki Matsuyama. Fleetwood is one shot better off than Matsuyama for the week.

Realistically neither man is going to win the tournament from here on in so they are playing for position only which makes me favour the Japanese star. Matsuyama actually has one of the better final round scoring averages on the Tour this year so we know he’ll finish well. Fleetwood saved a bad day with three birdies to finish on Saturday but with no chance of winning you’ve got to think his mind could wander towards Paris next week, and who could blame him. With that in mind I’ll take Hideki here.

Tips

WON – Back H.Matsuyama to beat T.Fleetwood for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with Betfred
