We have reached the halfway mark of the final PGA Tour event of the season which means that it is ‘Moving Day’ in the Tour Championship on Saturday. Some of the field have been found wanting this weekend but those who sit under par will be looking to make their moves.
We are heading towards the big money being handed out so there is a lot of pressure on show on Saturday to add to the intrigue. You get the feeling the truly great players are going to come to the fore over the 18 holes.
Round 2 Recap
After 36 holes we are left with two men tied for the lead. Justin Rose is looking to carry his world number one status to the $10 million bounty and he shares the halfway lead with Tiger Woods who is no stranger to collecting 10s of millions of dollars himself. They sit on seven under par with Rory McIlroy two back in third on five under. There are a quartet of players on four under that include Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm while our pre-tournament pick Kyle Stanley is another shot back on three under.
It was another annoying day for us betting wise on Friday as our pick Tony Finau led Paul Casey by three shots with seven holes remaining only to play those holes in three over the card to end up tying with the Englishman. It is fair to say the luck has eluded us this week and hopefully that changes over the weekend.
Saturday Betting
At the time of writing there isn’t a third round leader market priced up but given the quality on the leaderboard I’m not sure I would have got involved in it anyway. In terms of that sort of market I’m hoping that Kyle Stanley can move forward on Saturday and get himself in a position to deliver the goods at some point for us on Sunday. That aside I’m happy to look elsewhere for a Saturday bet.

Saturday 2 Balls
As with the first two rounds we are out in two balls on Saturday with the tee times pushed back 30 minutes to make sure the round is played in the heart of the afternoon out in Atlanta. That means the final two ball of Tiger Woods and Justin Rose goes out at 19.30 BST. Before then Patrick Cantlay and Jon Rahm go out at 19.10 BST while Rickie Fowler is out alongside Hideki Matsuyama 20 minutes before that. It is the final group where my bet comes from on Saturday.
Justin Rose vs Tiger Woods
Match tees off at 19.30 BST
The final pairing out on Saturday evening is one which is fully worthy of the stage they will be performing on as the world number one Justin Rose goes out alongside Tiger Woods in a pairing which should take a lot of the crowd around with them.
Both men sit on seven under par going into the round but I sense Rose is the man who is about to breakthrough. He struggled on the greens on Thursday but he found his feet on them on Friday and as he gets more familiar on them he could well go from strength to strength. Woods will be under pressure to finish the job off from here on in but he hasn’t managed that so far on his comeback and this is a big afternoon for him. I wouldn’t necessarily expect Tiger to go missing but he might struggle to keep up with the best player in the game right now over these 18 holes.
