The penultimate night in the first week of UEFA Nations League matches take place on Monday night with another set of fixtures which should be competitive and entertaining in equal supply across the continent.

Some sides make their first appearance in the competition on Monday evening while others will be looking to back up a result on Friday or make up for one had they failed to win in their opening game.

Group A

There is just the one match in Group A where the European champions Portugal, minus Cristiano Ronaldo, get their Nations League campaign underway when they take on an Italy side who drew with Poland in their opening match and therefore can take control of the group should they come away with a win here.

Group B

B2 is the focus of attention in this group on Monday evening as the World Cup quarter finalists Sweden make their first appearance in the competition. They play host to a Turkey side who were surprisingly beaten by Russia on Friday. A win for Sweden here would look to make the group a two horse race so Turkey are under pressure to deliver here.

Group C

There are three matches in this group on Monday evening with Scotland making their first appearance of the competition. They play host to Albania but going into the match off the back of a 4-0 defeat against Belgium in a friendly on Friday is less than ideal. Albania beat Israel on Friday and can put one foot into the playoffs with a win. In C4 Montenegro take on Lithuania with both sides looking for their first win while Serbia host Romania knowing if they pick up a win they will be tough to catch.

Group D

Three matches also take place in the basement group where in D1 Andorra will play host to Kazakhstan while over in D3 Kosovo will be looking to make progress on a 0-0 draw with Azerbaijan last time out. They host a much improved Faroe Islands while the aforementioned Azerbaijan head to Malta in the other match in the group.

Betting

There are two bets I like in these matches on Monday evening. I will start off in Group B where Sweden look good things to me to beat Turkey. Sweden rested their entire first team in their 2-0 defeat to Austria on Thursday night which kind of asks what the point in playing it in the first place was but that’s for another day. What it does suggest is that they are taking this competition seriously and so I have to think they will be too good for a Turkey side who disappointed in their opening defeat to an average Russia side on Friday evening. Sweden are fresher than their opponents here and better than them. Just under evens looks perfectly good to me.

Elsewhere when these double header of matches take place we often see the rank minnows struggle the second time around and with that in mind I think there is plenty of margin for a Kazakhstan win when they head to Andorra on Monday evening. Andorra will be buoyed by getting a point at Latvia on Friday night but they had to work hard for it. Kazakhstan opened up with a defeat to Georgia but they look the standout side in this section. I’m not going to hold that against the Kazakhs but I will back them to bounce back here. They have been to Hungary and won in 2018 and can win this too.
