2018 US Open Tennis – Men’s Semi-Finals Betting Preview

After the women played out their semi-finals in the US Open on Thursday it is the turn of the men to play down to the final on Friday on what looks like being a special evening out in Flushing Meadows under the New York lights.

Four men who have all been to the final of this tournament have navigated their way through to the semi-finals of the event and all should be in position to play some of their best tennis which should make for an amazing evening.

Day 11 Recap

It was all too easy for Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka in the semi-finals of the women’s draw and they will do battle for the title on Saturday night. Serena lost the first two games to Anastasija Sevastova but won 12 of the next 13 while Osaka was always in control of her match with Madison Keys winning 6-2 6-4.

That all meant that it was a disastrous day for us betting wise which was disappointing after a positive day on Wednesday but Friday is another day and we’ll hope to get back on track over the course of it.

Rafael Nadal vs Juan Martin del Potro

The opening semi-final will see Rafael Nadal meeting Juan Martin del Potro for the fourth Grand Slam in the last five after their epic quarter final at Wimbledon earlier in the year. Nadal has won the last three of those matches but away from the clay they have been good contests.

The big question heading into this match I would wager is what do both men have left. Nadal has been through a couple of early epics and then had to survive a brutally tough five set marathon while del Potro admitted he was laid out on the bed during the heat break in his win over Isner.

Thankfully the conditions are expected to be much better on Friday with cooler temperatures and not so much humidity around and with that in mind I’m expecting to see another lengthy contest between these two. They played out one of the best fifth sets we’ve ever seen at Wimbledon. I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re watching another one here but however long it goes over 39.5 games should safely land.

Kei Nishikori vs Novak Djokovic

The second semi-final is a repeat of the last four clash from 2014 as Kei Nishikori takes on Novak Djokovic in a tough looking battle for a place in the final of the competition on Sunday evening.

Djokovic has a mighty head to head record against his Japanese foe. He leads their career meetings 14-2 although it was Nishikori who won that semi-final here four years ago. He is playing some excellent tennis this year too and should be in a position to serve it up to Djokovic here.

There is no doubt all is not well with Djokovic. He has regularly had the doctor out to him in this tournament and was visibly struggling with the heat against Millman. Conditions here should be more acceptable but I do wonder what he has left if Nishikori has him going from side to side.

Part of me think Nishikori is value here but the fact condition are set to ease up here makes me think this could be a real good contest. Niskikori is hitting the ball well while Djokovic could defend against the Alamo so over 34.5 games looks the natural call.
