2018 US Open Tennis – Women’s Semi-Finals Betting Preview

It is women’s semi-final night in New York on Thursday evening or Friday morning if like me you reside in the UK. The roof will be on to protect the players from a gusty wind that is forecast for the Queens area so we should be set for a cracking night on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

All eyes will be on the American pair who will be expected to move through to the final but there are a couple of dangerous outsiders more than capable of upsetting the applecart. It really is nicely set up for a big evening of tennis.

Day 10 Recap

We were treated to another wonderful day of tennis on Wednesday. There were straight sets wins in the women’s draw for Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys but the men’s event did not disappoint. Kei Nishikori came through the first game in a deciding set in a contest which went beyond four hours while Novak Djokovic overcame John Millman.

It was finally the day we were looking for betting wise too even allowing for Cilic ending our outright hopes and the accumulator. All three singles on the day won pretty safely and Madison Keys brought in the 5/1 quarter punt so there is plenty of profit for us to build on for the rest of the tournament.

Serena Williams vs Anastasija Sevastova

The first of the two semi-finals sees the multi-time champion Serena Williams looking to make it back into the New York final when she goes up against the quality Latvian player Anastasija Sevastova.

All eyes will be on Serena to see if she has what it takes to come through here. One set against Kaia Kanepi aside she has looked awesome so far but Sevastova has been every bit as good as unlike some of Serena’s opponents there is no quit in the Latvian so whoever wins this will have done it on merit.

I don’t get the impression that Sevastova is going to be nervous here. In many ways she has nothing to lose anyway and I think she can really take it to Serena. If she doesn’t win a set I think she’ll keep one close and that can see her safely within 5.5 games when this one ends.

Madison Keys vs Naomi Osaka

The second semi-final should be another cracking contest as the big hitting Madison Keys looks to make it to successive US Open finals when she faces up to the Indian Wells champion Naomi Osaka who has really come of age this week.

Osaka has breezed through the draw with the exception of a good contest with Aryna Sabalenka while Keys has been destructive herself. She has only dropped one set in this competition and apart from that nobody has won more than four games in a set against her. Osaka has produced three bagels in this tournament and only dropped two games in the quarter finals.

Both these women are going to be confident. They are both hitting the ball well so just like their meeting here two years ago I would be surprised if this doesn’t go three sets. Osaka choked from 5-1 up in that decider. I’m not convinced she’ll choke again but even so the safer bet is over 21.5 games.
