2018 Vitality Blast – Sunday 5th August Matches Betting Preview

The Vitality Blast continues on Sunday with five matches including four battles from the South Group on what is a big afternoon in that section of the competition. There is also a match in the North Group on a busy afternoon.

Sadly the Test match being scheduled for Sunday means that none of these matches are on TV but some of them will be live streamed on the county websites and there is the radio commentary too.

North Group

There is just one match in the North Group on Sunday in which the Birmingham Bears will be looking for a much needed two points when they head to Northamptonshire for whom finals day is already a pipe dream. Birmingham are in the position where they need to win their last five matches and hope it is enough to progress while the Steelbacks are just looking for a win.

South Group

Two of the top three meet at Canterbury when the leaders in the South, Kent host a Gloucestershire side who will move level on points with them with a win and still have a game in hand. Somerset in second make the trip to Hove to face Sussex while at Chelmsford the powerful Surrey batting line up takes on an Essex side who need snookers to qualify. The other match comes from Richmond where Middlesex host Glamorgan.

Betting

I’m going with three bets over the course of the day. It may well have been four had Usman Khawaja not left Glamorgan but he has so I’ll settle for three with the first of those being Somerset who I think match up nicely to Sussex. No side has won more matches in the group than Somerset and although much is made of the Sussex bowling attack, Somerset are more than competitive with their own bowlers. While everyone talks up Sussex’s bowling it is largely ignored that they are a batsman or two light and a couple of the ones they do have are out of form. Somerset are firing with bat and ball right now and they look good value to me.

I also think Gloucestershire are worth a bet away to Kent. Gloucestershire already have a win over Kent this season and they are playing good cricket. They lost to Glamorgan in a high scoring cracker on Friday night but it is rare that their attack goes around the park. Kent are playing good cricket themselves and are in good form although their latest two wins against Essex and Hampshire don’t account for much in truth. This is little more than a 50/50 match to me and with that in mind Gloucestershire look good value at odds against.

Every match at Northampton this season has been high scoring and I see no reason why Sunday’s game between Northamptonshire and Birmingham Bears will not follow suit. The two sides met in a high scoring epic tie at Edgbaston earlier in the competition where both teams scored 230. Northants probably aren’t in the form to repeat that but they know how to give it a good crack in home conditions and by hook or by crook (not Steven!) I think we’ll go beyond 343.5 runs here.
