2018 Vitality Blast – Wednesday 1st August Matches Betting Preview

There are two matches in the Vitality Blast on Wednesday with the South Group very much being the focus on what feels like a big day for the four sides involved. We are heading towards the halfway mark in this group so these two games feel significant.

Although the Test match is currently going on we still have a TV game to enjoy once play at Edgbaston has concluded while earlier in the day there is a game away from the TV but which will have a live stream as well as the other ways of keeping up to date.

Somerset vs Hampshire (16.30)

The first match of the day is the one which is not on TV but it is a pretty big game for Hampshire when they make the trip to Taunton to take on a Somerset side who are probably playing better cricket than their record suggests.

Somerset will go top of the pile for a few hours at least if they can win this match but for Hampshire it is do or die. Even if they win their final seven matches they will only sneak into the quarter finals. Any defeat now could end their campaign largely before it has begun. They have won just one of their six completed matches and that was against a Middlesex side who are next to useless.

Somerset have won four of their five full 20 over matches with two of their three defeats coming in rain affected contests so their play is better than their record. They look a solid side with bat and ball and can see off a Hampshire side who are struggling to put a complete performance together.

Sussex vs Gloucestershire (19.00)

The big match of the TV is the TV game where top spot will be on the line when Sussex, who begin the evening in fourth place, host the leaders Gloucestershire in what should be a great match down at Hove.

Sussex have been talked up all competition and quite rightly so with their bowling attack although actually they have been leaking runs for fun in recent times which is not ideal because they look a genuine batsman light. Gloucestershire have won four of their five completed matches and already look like a side ready to dominate this group once again.

I think the value is with Gloucestershire here. Sussex’s attack is highly thought of but year on year the Gloucestershire one delivers the odds, often under the radar. Gloucestershire bat deep enough and always have a plan with the bat. They are playing great cricket right now and can come through this. Sussex should be respected but Gloucestershire can’t be ignored at this price.

I also can’t ignore Andrew Tye when it comes to the top Gloucestershire bowler. He has only played in three of their six matches and yet he is already only one wicket shy of being their leading wicket taker in the tournament. He has three wicket hauls in his last two matches and will bowl all of the key overs for Gloucestershire. At 13/5 he looks the standout to be their top bowler.
