2018 Vitality Blast – Yorkshire vs Derbyshire Betting Preview

It was meant to be a day off in the Vitality Blast on Monday. That was before England’s World Cup semi-final meant that the match between Yorkshire and Derbyshire had to be moved and the two meet for the second time in three days when they face off at Headingley on Monday evening.

Derbyshire won that match at Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon and they will be looking for a quick fire double over the Vikings. Yorkshire will be looking to get back to winning ways but sadly there is no TV coverage of this one for us. We will have to do with the radio commentary and social media updates.

Yorkshire

It had looked as though Yorkshire were going to cruise to victory in that match against Derbyshire at the weekend but then a horror final over cost them dearly and they ended up losing. That halted the momentum they had built up with a fine win over Birmingham Bears on Friday evening so they will be looking to get back to winning ways here.

One thing which should give the Vikings plenty of confidence heading into this match is their wonderful home record. They are one of the best teams in this format on their own patch and with two home games in as many evenings this week they have a wonderful chance to stamp their mark on a quarter final spot.

Derbyshire

Full credit needs to go to Derbyshire, not just for their win on Saturday, which highlighted what a couple of wins prior to it can do as they displayed a never know when they are beaten attitude, but also because they have been playing under quite some pressure in that time after a weak beginning to the campaign.

Having suffered four defeats to begin the competition they knew they had to go on a winning run which they have done. A win here will level up their ledger and put them on course to make the quarter finals for the second time in as many seasons. Their bowling looks really solid and if their batting can keep delivering like it has been doing, Derbyshire should not be ruled out.

Team News

Yorkshire will be without the services of Adil Rashid from here on in which means that Matt Fisher could come back into the side if he is fit. That could be the only change to the side with all the Test players now away.

Unless conditions dictate something different we should expect Derbyshire to line up with the same side that won on Saturday which would mean that Lockie Ferguson will be unleashed on a wicket that had plenty of pace and bounce on Friday night.

Betting

You could argue that Derbyshire were a little fortunate to win on Saturday when needing 19 off the final over but at the same time you could dispute that they were unlucky to have their innings affected by rain to stall their progress halfway through.

I fear a little for Yorkshire here actually. Rashid took 2-19 from his four overs on Saturday and he isn’t around here while for Derbyshire, Wayne Madsen was out cheaply and he doesn’t fail in successive matches very often. It might actually be that there is more to come from Derbyshire in this match and with the confidence they must be flying with they are worth backing. Yorkshire and their home record must be respected but if Derbyshire can keep the top four quiet they have every chance here.
