Round 2 Recap

After two rounds of this tournament three men share a two shot lead and they include our main tournament pick Tommy Fleetwood. He is on 11 under par alongside Ian Poulter and Justin Thomas. Kyle Stanley, another of our picks before the tournament began, sits alongside Jason Day in fourth on nine under with Rory McIlroy a shot further back to that on eight under. Jon Rahm, Tiger Woods, Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen are all within five of the lead. This is set up good.

Speaking of good, it was a good day for our bets on Friday with both two ball bets winning with a bit in hand. Kyle Stanley comfortably saw off Cameron Smith despite a double bogey while Matt Fitzpatrick’s level par round was too good for Jordan Spieth to put us slightly in profit for the two ball bets thus far.

Saturday Betting

Once again we have the early signs of a third round leader market but just like on Friday it isn’t really one that interests me given that I have two of the leading principles backed outright and also given that the leaderboard is bunched. Not only is it bunched but it is absolutely stacked with quality and predicting what could or will happen on Saturday is not easy so in fairness I’m not even going to try! I’ll go for the two balls for a bet.

Saturday 2 Balls

Once again the field go out in twos on Saturday and it is the English duo of Fleetwood and Poulter, who could very well be out alongside each other in the Ryder Cup next month, who are last out onto the golf course. They tee off at 19.05 BST with Justin Thomas and Kyle Stanley out 10 minutes earlier in the penultimate group. Marc Leishman has the honour of partnering Tiger Woods at 18.05 but my bet comes a little earlier than that.

Patton Kizzire vs Ross Fisher

Match tees off at 17.45 BST

Two men who go into the second round of the tournament on five under par are Patton Kizzire and Ross Fisher and they are onto the golf course around 9-10 groups before the leaders which should be a nice time to be out.

This week represents something of a return to form for Kizzire who has been quiet for a large part of 2018 so far. Whether he can keep that going in what is turning into a shootout remains to be seen. One of the good things about following Ross Fisher on Twitter is he’s extremely balanced and honest about his play and his feelings and he has suggested he is enjoying this week. To be fair he drove it badly on Friday but I can’t believe his strength will be his weakness two days in a row. If he can find more fairways he can go on the attack and see off Kizzire here.
