2018 Wimbledon Tennis – Day 2 Betting Preview

The first round of the singles draws conclude at Wimbledon on Tuesday when the other halves of the draw get their campaigns underway on what should be another extremely good day of tennis at SW19.

We saw the likes of Roger Federer and Serena Williams on Monday and on Tuesday the likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova are on court as is the defending women’s champion Garbine Muguruza.

Day 1 Recap

There were comfortable wins for Roger Federer, Marin Cilic, Milos Raonic and John Isner among others in the men’s draw while on the women’s side Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Madison Keys all made it safely through. There was a shock in the big match of the day as Stan Wawrinka dumped Grigor Dimitrov out while the likes of Elina Svitolina, Sloane Stephens, Richard Gasquet and Coco Vandeweghe all bit the dust.

It was a terrible first day for us in terms of results betting wise with Anastasija Sevastova involved in a real rollercoaster match which she somehow lost in a third set while Richard Gasquet couldn’t win one of three close sets against Gael Monfils. Pablo Carreno Busta then decided to take a set off which cost us and may end up costing him too so there is work to do.

Centre Court

The defending women’s champion Garbine Muguruza gets play underway on Centre Court when she takes on Britain’s Naomi Broady. The world number two Rafael Nadal is then on show on the famous court when he plays Dudi Sela before Simona Halep gets her quest for a first Wimbledon title underway against Kurumi Nara of Japan.

Court 1

British number one Kyle Edmund is the first player on show out on Court 1 when he takes on the relatively unknown Alex Bolt of Australia with the former women’s champion Petra Kvitova following them onto court. She takes on Aliaksandra Sasnovich with another former winner of the tournament rounding off the action on the second big court when Novak Djokovic takes on Tennys Sandgren.

Court 2

Another British player gets things going over on Court 2 as Jo Konta is on show when she takes on Natalia Vikhlyantseva before the fourth seed Alexander Zverev goes up against James Duckworth of Australia. Dominic Thiem then meets Marcos Baghdatis before yet another player to have won the title here competes when Maria Sharapova goes up against fellow Russian player Vitalia Diatchenko to finish off the action on the ‘graveyard’ court.

Court 3

Former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro begins the action on Court 3 when he meets Peter Gojowczyk before the former finalist Angelique Kerber takes on the veteran Vera Zvonareva. ATP Tour Finals runner up David Goffin comes up against Matthew Ebden before one of the matches of the day in the women’s draw when Belinda Bencic takes on the French star Caroline Garcia.

Best of the Rest

Court 12 will be popular for those who have ground passes as Ashleigh Barty and Nick Kyrgios will be on show out there. Heather Watson also competes on that court for British fans. Fabio Fognini and Naomi Osaka will be on Court 18 while Diego Schwartzman, Fernando Verdasco, Kei Nishikori, Denis Shapovalov and Jelena Ostapenko are some of the other seeds on show around the grounds of SW19.

Men’s Betting

There are one or two that I was considering in the men’s draw on Tuesday but in the end I have decided to settle with just the one bet which is on Frances Tiafoe to take advantage of the poor grass court record of Fernando Verdasco.

This clearly isn’t the Spaniard’s favourite surface and he hasn’t exactly had a stellar clay court season too so I think the American has every chance in this one. Tiafoe had a decent run at Queens where he made it through to the quarter final and didn’t do too much wrong against Jeremy Chardy in defeat. If he plays like he can then I fancy he’ll find a way to get it done against a fading Verdasco.

Women’s Betting

Just the one for me in the women’s draw too which is on Shuai Peng to beat Sam Stosur. I’ve never been truly convinced about Stosur on grass whereas Peng has shown some decent form on these courts in the past. Peng is now ranked some 40 places above Stosur in the rankings which could make the 8-1 head to head lead Stosur has, many of which when the rankings were reversed, irrelevant. I’ll go with Peng who I’m expecting to hit the cleaner and better shots on this surface.

Tips
