Morning Session

We have two streamed tables in operation for the first few days this week and first up on one of them is Matt Selt. He will be looking to avoid a banana skin when he takes on the women’s world champion Ng On Yee over the best of 19 frames. The other match sees Martin Gould looking to go within two wins of a return to the Crucible. He plays Paul Davison.

The other tables will be full for this session. Mark Joyce meets Adam Duffy while Mei Xi Wen takes on Basem Eltahhan of Egypt. Xiao Guodong will be expected to come past Chris Totten while Stuart Carrington against Nigel Bond could be a lot closer. Ben Woollaston is another big name on show in this session. He takes on Kacper Filipiak and there is an all-Chinese tussle between Zhang Anda and Zhang Yong. The last three matches see Elliot Slessor playing Eden Sharav, Robert Milkins taking on the World Seniors winner Aaron Canavan and Scott Donaldson faces Tyler Rees.

Afternoon Session

All eyes will be on Graeme Dott in the afternoon session. He gets his campaign underway on one of the streamed tables when he faces the Australian amateur Adrian Ridley. Michael Holt is the man on the other main table when he goes up against the competent Thor Chuan Leong of Malaysia.

Elsewhere we have Akani Songsermsawad taking on Lukas Kleckers while Dominic Dale meets the ladies superstar Reanne Evans. Mike Dunn has a date with Duane Jones while Rory McLeod will face Ian Burns. Li Hang meets Ashley Hugill and there are two other Chinese players in action when Lu Haotian faces Fang Xiongman. Anthony Hamilton has a tricky test against Martin O’Donnell with the other match being an all-Asian clash between Zhao Xintong and Aditya Mehta.

Betting

I’m going with one bet in each session on Wednesday. I’ll begin with Matt Selt who really should dominate his match against the women’s champion Ng On Yee. On Yee was invited into this qualifying series last year and she was beaten 10-1 while the year before that Peter Lines beat her 10-1. Selt is better than both of those so I’m expecting him to cruise through here. Without being disrespectful, On Yee just doesn’t score high enough to beat anyone of a fair standard in the men’s game and Selt is perfectly competent. As long as he doesn’t put too much pressure on himself and he plays this smart Selt should win this no worse than 10-2.

In the afternoon session I fancy Anthony Hamilton could be vulnerable when he takes on Martin O’Donnell. O’Donnell has played some fairly decent stuff since that run to the semi-final in the Shootout whereas since the Champion of Champions, Hamilton has barely put any form together whatsoever. Experience sits on the side of Hamilton and that might see him through but often these days you need more than just experience so O’Donnell looks the value pick here.
