2018 World Grand Prix Snooker – Day 1 Betting Preview

The opening day of the World Grand Prix at the Guild Hall in Preston involves just one session of play as the event gets underway on both the tables in operation this week. There might be a shortage of matches but there is not a lack of stars on show and the biggest name of them all is on the green baize right from the off.

That is Ronnie O’Sullivan, who begins his campaign, while the likes of Luca Brecel, Yan Bingtao and the beaten finalist of 12 months ago Ryan Day form a decent looking support cast among the four matches taking place.

Main Table

Ronnie O’Sullivan will get the action underway on the main table. He takes part in the first of two televised matches in the evening when he takes on the dangerous Robert Milkins. Once those two are done two tournament winners meet when the China Championship winner Luca Brecel meets the Shootout champion Michael Georgiou.

Other Table

The beauty of this tournament containing the top 32 players in the money list this season is that we are guaranteed quality on the other table too and that is certainly the case on Monday evening. Martin Gould and Yan Bingtao will be first to compete on the table and then they are followed by Ryan Day and Jack Lisowski in what should be a cracking match.

Betting

I’m going to begin the week quite quietly with just the one bet. Given the fact we have the form players on show this week I expect a number of close matches so the best of seven element will just be picking off the value I would expect and that is what I’m looking to do here.

Jack Lisowski has won his last three matches against Ryan Day and I fancy him to win this one too. Since the turn of the year Ryan Day has struggled to start matches strongly and if he doesn’t begin this one quickly he could be out of the tournament before he has gotten into it. Lisowski is usually fast out of the blocks and we’ve seen him in good touch throughout the best of seven events this year. I don’t think there is too much between these two so the value definitely lies in Lisowski at 13/10.
