2018 World Matchplay Darts – Day 7 Betting Preview

The last two quarter finals of the World Matchplay take place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Friday evening and by the end of the night we will know which four men will be competing for the final Triple Crown event of the year over the weekend.

We saw two epic quarter finals on Thursday evening so there is a lot for the four men on show to live up to but they are all top players in their own right and should fancy their chances of putting on an evening to remember.

Mensur Suljovic vs Darren Webster

The opening match of the evening sees Mensur Suljovic looking to take a step closer to another TV title when he takes on a Darren Webster who is really threatening a big tournament of his own at the minute.

These two players have both been seen as steady players throughout their careers but in recent times they have added a notch on their scoring and have become much more reliable on their finishing and now they have a wonderful opportunity for a huge prize which will do their ranking absolutely no harm.

I’m expecting a tight match here between two men who are pretty evenly matched and with that in mind the 9/4 on Webster winning this one looks good to me. He has seen off the world champion in ruthless style already in this tournament and if he can hold his finishing together over the long distance he’ll be tough to shake off.

Peter Wright vs Simon Whitlock

The last of the quarter finals sees the 2017 finalist and highest ranked player left in the tournament in Peter Wright taking on Simon Whitlock who is looking for another major semi-final less than a year after making the World Grand Prix final.

Wright has looked very strong in this tournament so far and is expected to make it through. I think he’ll make it through too. I think his scoring is more sustained over this sort of distance and I don’t think Whitlock is reliable enough on the doubles over 31 legs. Wade missed a stack of doubles against the Australian. Credit to him for taking advantage but I don’t see Wright doing the same.

The best bet here though is for Whitlock to hit the most 180s. Wright has only hit two 180s in both his matches so far whereas Whitlock is scoring much heavier on the 60 bed than that. 4/5 on Whitlock to hit the most 180s looks a good thing to me.
