2018 World Open Snooker – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of action at the World Open in China sees the first round of the tournament conclude with two sessions of action taking place. Those who won their held over matches on Monday will be back in action on Tuesday to complete the opening round.

Monday passed through without too many shocks with the exception of Liang Wenbo being knocked out but world champion Mark Williams and defending champion Ding Junhui were both taken to a deciding frame.

Morning Session

Former world champion and the world number one Mark Selby is the headline act in the morning session. He faces up to the talented Englishman, Elliott Slessor on one of the main tables while World Championship semi-finalist Kyren Wilson goes up against Paul Davison on the other streamed table which might be a surprise to some.

That is because on the outside tables there is a real tasty match up between The Masters champion Mark Allen and the exciting Chinese youngster Lu Haotian which I expected to get a bigger billing. The other matches see James Cahill going up against Andrew Higginson, Michael Georgiou facing Xiao Guodong, Mark Joyce playing Anthony Hamilton, Simon Lichtenberg taking on Mei Xi Wen and Harvey Chandler playing Kurt Maflin.

Afternoon Session

The defending champion Ding Junhui is back on the main table in the afternoon session. He meets Yuan Sijun while on the other table with the cameras on it Judd Trump takes on Martin O’Donnell in his first match of the week which is likely to be the streamed game rather than the TV one.

That means the world champion Mark Williams will only be good enough for an outside table when he goes up against Alexander Ursenbacher. Ben Woollaston is also on the outside tables when he plays Chang Bingyu while the other matches in the session sees Mike Dunn playing Joe Perry, Yan Bingtao taking on Stuart Carrington, Michael Holt meeting Mark Davis and Neil Robertson facing Andy Lee.

Betting

I’m going with two bets over the course of Tuesday with the first one coming in the form of Anthony Hamilton who has started the season well and who can account for Mark Joyce. Hamilton has only lost one match this season which was to Kyren Wilson and there is no harm in that. Joyce has started the campaign a little hit and miss. I think when both are at their best Hamilton is the better player of these two and if his fitness was guaranteed I’m convinced he would be the favourite in this one. I’ll chance that he is fine and wins this one at odds against.

Neil Robertson looks to be in pristine form already this season. He won the Riga Masters with nobody other than Liang Wenbo getting near him and he won his held over match here 5-0 with a couple of centuries and another big break. He now takes on Andy Lee who is new to the tour and who is likely to be out of his depth here. Robertson’s scoring power should create a number of chances and while the Hong Kong man might be good for a frame it is hard to see him winning much more.
