The second half of the Big Bash League double header on Sunday comes from the Adelaide Oval where the Adelaide Strikers and the Hobart Hurricanes meet with both teams wanting a win for different reasons.
The Strikers know they are in the playoffs but a win here would move them into second and would give them two goes at making the final while the Hurricanes know they have to win to make it through. A defeat ends their season.
Adelaide Strikers
I’ve really enjoyed watching the Adelaide Strikers this season. Although they looked a batsman light earlier in the campaign, at no stage did they look to rein themselves in like some teams might have done, and in the end they have profited from that with a spot in the postseason. It is now all about nailing as high a spot as possible, and taking some good form and positivity into the next stage of the campaign with them.
One thing the Strikers have done well all season is hold their nerve with the ball. With Rashid Khan in their ranks, teams are always going to go after their other bowlers, but they have found it harder to do than normal because of how well those men have bowled. That has taken the pressure off their light batting line up, but now that area is at full strength, we might well be seeing the Strikers closing in on a second title in three years.
Hobart Hurricanes
You have to give full credit to the Hobart Hurricanes for the way they have turned their fortunes around in the last week or so. Back then they were going nowhere and not really showing where their next win was coming from but all of a sudden they have picked up a couple of wins and have got big players back, and you wonder if they are primed for a deep run in the playoffs. Should they win here they would certainly be one of the form teams going in.
The Hurricanes batting has always been good this season, so they only needed to find an improvement with the ball. That was naturally going to come when James Faulkner was back in the side but actually the leg spin of D’Arcy Short has been a revelation as well, and it was that which took care of the Sydney Thunder in emphatic style last time out. A repeat of that display would have the Hurricanes very tough to beat here.

Team News
As you would expect, the Adelaide Strikers have named an unchanged 13 man squad for this match and given how well they are playing it would be something of a surprise were they not to name the same starting XI as well.
Given the dominant nature of the Hobart Hurricanes’ victory over the Sydney Thunder last time out, it is probably no surprise that they are also unchanged in their squad for this game. Apart from a late illness or injury they are likely to go in with the same team too.
Betting
I’m expecting the boundaries to flow here. That isn’t exactly unoriginal I grant you but quite often the obvious bets are the right bets and I think that will be the case here. Although this is just a win the game sort of contest, there are stipulations why I like the boundaries to flow and indeed to see a 35.5 line covered, not least because that line looks pretty low anyway given the nature of the set up of this ground.
Hobart matches tend to be high scoring with their top quality batting line up and I don’t see any different here either. Adelaide are actively being encouraged to hit boundaries in this match because their sponsors are donating to the bush relief fund for every four or six that is hit by them in the game. Boundaries come naturally to Hobart and certainly square of the wicket they are open to all in this match. The long boundaries can be found too. I expect this line to be covered quite easily.
