2019-20 Big Bash League – Perth Scorchers vs Adelaide Strikers Tips and Betting Preview

The second half of the double header in the Big Bash League on Friday sees the Perth Scorchers looking to secure their postseason berth when they host the Adelaide Strikers who have already secured their playoff spot.

Perth will have another chance to land their place in the final stages of the tournament but they would need to win a do or die clash in Sydney so they would rather get the job done here. The Strikers are playing for second place and a couple of shots at making the final.

Perth Scorchers

The Scorchers head into this match off the back of an emphatic win over the Sydney Thunder last time out, and if they can replicate that effort here, especially with the bat, then they are going to take an awful lot of beating. They can take confidence from the fact they have largely been good at home this season, which has always been the base for their previous success, which bodes well for them moving forward.

If there is a concern for the Scorchers it is that they have been a little too reliant on their top three or four for comfort, but then they are that good they can be relied upon. Where there doesn’t appear to be any problems is with the ball, something they have got better at the longer the competition has gone on, and if that trend continues then the multi-time champions could take some stopping again.

Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers were overtaken in second place by the Sydney Sixers on Thursday so they will be out for the win which will regain that position and give them two chances of reaching the final if they can hold on to it. It means they will go to the Melbourne Stars in their opening playoff match but they have just beaten them so that may not hold too many fears for them, not should it with the way they are playing.

The Strikers have a very good bowling attack which they feel will defend most scores so the outcome of both this match and their fortunes when they playoffs begin will be determined by their batsmen. In that regard they are in good order as they have a wonderful top five and enough bits and pieces players down the order to get the job done. Adelaide know how to go all the way in this tournament and that knowledge can be invaluable.

Team News

The Perth Scorchers have their international pair of Ashton Agar and Ashton Turner back for this match. They come in for Liam Guthrie and Cameron Green who have been left out. Chris Jordan plays his final match of the season here.

It comes as no surprise that the Adelaide Strikers have named the same squad as they go in search of another win. It would need something unforeseen for them to change their starting XI for this match as well.

Betting

Much like what we saw in the New Zealand and India match earlier in the day, this ground is built for hitting sixes and while I completely respect the Adelaide Strikers bowling attack I still think we are going to see more than 11.5 sixes here. The ground is absolutely perfect for this line to be covered and on a similar track albeit shorter square boundaries rather than straight ones in Adelaide this line was easily covered.

There is a good deal of hitting potential in these two sides, especially with Ashton Turner back and with a point to prove in this one. There might not be many sixes off Rashid Khan but the other bowlers in the match can all go round the park and with the strength in the two top orders I’ll back that to happen here. 11.5 sixes is not a particularly high line so I’m happy to indulge in what should be a great game.
