2019-20 Bundesliga – Hoffenheim vs RB Leipzig Tips and Betting Preview

The Bundesliga continues to head towards its conclusion and another round of matches begins on Friday evening when Europe chasing Hoffenheim host a RB Leipzig side who have their eyes on remaining with the elite of the continent.

Both sides have shown some decent form recently so there is every reason to suggest we could and should be in for a decent encounter, one where a victory for either side would really help them in their respective quest.

Hoffenheim

It looked like the break had come at the right time for Hoffenheim although when they were thumped 3-0 at home by Hertha Berlin immediately after the restart there were fears that the poor form had hungover but that hasn’t been the case. Since that defeat they have gone four unbeaten, and although you couldn’t claim they have been completely impressive and dominant in that time, they have been picking up the results which is largely all that counts.

The concern for Hoffenheim fans and followers going into this match is the only strong attack they have come up against since the restart comfortably got the better of them, and indeed they have only kept one clean sheet since the return so if they are going to get that final European spot they are going to need to tighten up defensively. We’ve seen a lot of goals in this league since it came back though and the hosts at least have plenty of them in them.

RB Leipzig

We all know that RB Leipzig began the restart with a good chance of winning the title if they could have hit the ground running, however a disappointing draw against Freiburg pretty much put paid to that, and two more draws in the four outings since then have left them just looking to protect their Champions League spot. They are not yet guaranteed to finish in the top four so they can’t just wind the season down. They need to keep picking up points.

If you are looking for a side to use in that trend of home teams struggling since Bundesliga returned then Leipzig are your go to point. They have played three games on their own patch behind closed doors and drawn the lot whereas they have won both their matches away from home, scored nine times in the process and looked very good throughout. That is the sort of performance they will want here to pile the pressure on those around them over the remainder of the weekend.

Team News

Hoffenheim could be boosted by the return of top scorer Andrej Kramaric for the first time since the competition restarted, which will be a boost for the caretaker managers in charge following the dismissal of Alfred Schreuder last week. Benjamin Hubner is suspended for the game.

RB Leipzig are also without a suspended player in the form of centre-back Dayot Upamecano. Leipzig will be hoping that Marcel Sabitzer will be fit to feature and he’ll be given every chance to prove his fitness. Dani Olmo could continue to deputise should Sabitzer not make it.

Betting

Based on what we have seen from these two sides since the Bundesliga returned we should probably be expecting an away win but RB Leipzig are priced plenty short enough for that, against opponents who should be able to hold their own here, even allowing for the fact that home teams haven’t been faring too well behind closed doors. I’d be surprised if Leipzig don’t win but I’m not a fan of chasing short prices.

I’m going to support the other trend that has materialised since the restart, the one which loads of goals are scored. Leipzig have bagged nine on their travels in two matches in the last few weeks but they aren’t keeping many sides out at the minute. Hoffenheim have got goals in them but they are just as likely to concede them too so two sides who are better going forward than they are at defending can combine for an entertaining encounter here, and one which contains more than 3.5 goals.
